I have working with a Sony UP-DC10 4x6/300dpi dye sub printer for 2 year now.My customer like this photos than they I get from S900 and epson print. It feel like and look reel photos.Earlyer some of my customer came after few year and told about fading in color.Sad with married pictures. So now I get few weeks ago a P-400,8x10 dye sub.A4 print look right great as Sony.My ink printers is retired .(clogging, banding etc, etc)Now I get out for weeks and all functions right on when I start up this dye sub printers.

Tell.you, have a 3 weeks holliday this summer and both the ink printers,canon/epson was totallt clogged. My HP 1115 work fine when starting, but it give you a LITTLE mor grainy pictures. All to all,I sell pictures with a good feeling in my hart.
Sony has a varity of 4 x 6 dyesub printers on the market and just
introduced a $200 version
( http://www.steves-digicams.com/pr/sony_09032002_pr.html ) that is
competitive with HI-touch. I think that I would feel more
comfortable with a Sony product and its available source of paper
and dyesub ribbons in the next 3-4 years. I would like everyone's
opinion on a Sony dyesub's quality.

I have the Hi-Ti 630PS model and I'm totally satisfied. I would only say this to your question: If you are satisfied with paying double the price for the paper and ribbon, go with the sony. Enough said.

I agree,
why pay double for the prints.

I can't remark on the printers, just my idea of the Sony quality. I used to swear by Sony. I have 2dvd's, a reciever and a cassette deck that are Sony. I also have a Pioneer dvd. I used to use sony phones. I had problems with one of the dvd's, and the reciever. Both spent a lot of time being repaired, the reciever 4 times. I had problems with 2 sony phones, have 2 panasonic now. I bought a sony cassette player a couple of years ago and it was messed up, returned it within 90 days.

I understand that you can get faulty new products and I don't hate sony, I just don't think they are better than any other brand any more. I think they used to be great, but now are no different than any other.

I'm not here to knock sony, but I would add this: just ask anyone who owns a playstation 2 that won't play non-dvd games anymore, that sony supposedly wants around $125-150 to fix, what they think of sony.

I own a sony XBR tv and progressive dvd player... Both are A-1. I had a Sony micromv chamchorder and returned it. I just didnt like the fact you could only edit film with Sony software. I would never buy a Sony puter, nor would I buy their printer (when they charge twice as much for consumables)..Oh! I forgot to mention I love my Hiti.

I just started this thread since, I wonder if HI-touch will have consumables in 2-3 years. Since I am not familiar with the company, have they been producing dye-sub paper and ribbons for some time? Sony has a track record for their consumables and I would hate to pay $169 or $200 for any printer and next year not be able to buy paper and ribbons whatever they cost.

Dear sir,

Just to let you know, consumer dye-sub printer is only a tiny portion of the complete Sony product category, while it is the only and core product of Hi-Touch (Hi-Ti). Hi-Touch starts the business because of the faith in the digital imaging trend. We are not gonna risk the business in discontinuing the consumables or unfaithful to our customers.

During these days, we've received many feedbacks and supports from photo professionals, early adoptors and adventurous buyers. That gave us more confidence to keep improving the product and to develop new models and technologies. Those supports are very important to us and we take every advice from customers, hopefully to make the product more fitting into customers' need to print their own photos.

Best regards,
I-Ming
