Hutch .. I'm adressing this first to you ... in the Ebenezer Wall thread, you said

I am in favour and will participate in any kind of Memorial for Marion that we come up with.

Right now I think the perpetuation of the Memorial Book on the Internet at a very low cost (I think $70.00 US) is one way that we could go, maybe through Pay Pal.
I've taken a liberty to make this into a thread because time is of the essence ... I HOPE my actions fit the spirit of your intent :

"This Guest Book will remain online until 11/10/2009" is what it says.

This is the page John is talking about.

Hutch's Suggestion is for us to pull together $70 to to get that memorial page to stay in perpetuity.

I can think of three questions to consider

1: Do we want to do this
2: Who's in?

3: is this a decision for us to MAKE and ACT on? Is this a decision for us to MAKE but first OFFER to the next of kin before taking action?

By 11/10/2009, this will all have been sorted one way or another.

... very happy to contribute by paypal to cost split up to max of 25$

... and I'd risk simply going ahead. The next of kin have got a lot to think about, I'm guessing they'd be cool. That relative of his wrote in the guest book how she'd not be able to go out taking pictures with him like they'd planned. I can just see them dipping into it in the coming months and years. I'm sure we'll be posting further snippets ... words and pictures.

I'm in but I think the next of kin should be asked if they approve.

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

At my end I'm reading the cost as being "$79.99 Permanent Guest Book
Create a lasting legacy by keeping this Guest Book online forever."

I'm in Glyn - and thanks for posting the suggestion. Please let me know the final details.

Yes ask the family first. But I dont think they will object. I think more will pipe in. There are so many of us in this group. Per person may even get down to $3 per person. I can, due to financial difficulties right now, give $5.

The memorial book is very nice and contains some powerful sentiments
about Marion, but I think that preserving, and maybe adding to, his
photo galleries at PBase ( http://pbase.com/stf ) would be an even
better way of keeping Marion's memory alive. Of course, this would
have to be done with the consent of the family. If they approve, I
would commit to paying the fees for the account for at least 5 years
and longer if the galleries are active.

Acting on this suggestion does preclude keeping the Memorial Book
active in perpetuity - in fact a link could be added to the PBase
galleries to it if both ideas are implemented.

Hi Glyn, mark us down for $10. Let me know who to transfer the $ to. As for asking the family.... I personally do not think we need their approval. This is an STF honor, were we not his On-line Family ? My pennies worth.

regards.

Hi

Y'know, my own 2C is "Yes, go for it!" I think that's a terrific idea and a generous offer. I know full well you have been a special friend to Marion ... none of us knew how this particular clock was counting down, and many hours of his last years and days were spent expressing his dreams and his soul with what you made possible. With what you made possible.
Acting on this suggestion does [[not]] preclude keeping the Memorial Book
active in perpetuity - in fact a link could be added to the PBase
galleries to it if both ideas are implemented.
I agree ... IMO it makes sense to do both. The memorial book, on the one hand, though it has a place for pictures is not geared for quality reproduction, but on the other hand, is a simple and elegant way for all, within AND outside this photo community, to share messages.

Best wishes
Glyn

Hi All

I have written to Anita to contact the family about this.
If someone else has family contact details, then go ahead.
Hi Anita

I am Glyn Powell from the Sony Talk Forum

A kind member, John 'Hutchman' suggested we make a donation so Marion's guestbook at Legacy dot Com may survive in perpetuity.
There is a growing set of people on the forum who are willing and keen to do this

The consensus was not to do it unilaterally but that his family should be asked if this is OK with them, so we'd be very grateful if you would put the question to them.
I will be copying the text of this letter to
Very best wishes

I have forwarded your information to the family and will get back to you asap.
THANKS again

Let us know how and when in your own time, mate.

Hi John

Looks like things are in place concerning support, and also communications with the family.

If we get the 'go ahead' then the final question will be 'Who'll collect/collate the contributions and make the payment at legacy dot com?

I'm reckoning that person will need to be someone with both Paypal and at least ONE of the cards that they accept. They don't accept Paypal. Me ... I have none of those cards, so I'm disqualified apart from chipping in with Paypal. How are you set up/what do you reckon?

All the best
Glyn
