As soon as my new G11's battery was charged up, I went out and shot some test photos in and around the Arizona Grand resort, a short walk from where I live. A few shots of the golf course at dusk and quite a few taken at night of the resort's buildings and lighted fountains. You can view the photos at

Wow. Very impressive. Can't believe that's what point and shoots can do these days.

Geat improvement on the way from G7. Thanks.

Best regards, swnw.

Guys! I just can't get it. Are your expectations so low after the buzz Canon provoked about the new sensor? ISO800 and upwards are clean, but definetely fuzzy. Look at Fuji EXR sensor-based cameras. They have better noise control at SN mode at inferior resolution, but you do get usable images at 800, 1600 ISO. For me fuzzy high ISO is not the way to go.

???????? Is that all from $500 camera??? Is it joke??? You can get the same or better IQ from ANY cameras. Actually day shots are just simply terrible. I am in line to buy G11, but I better have to wait pro-review instead. Thanks.

I really don't like EXR's "black shadows", canon is way better for me.

Well I'm not sure why the EXR sensor is raised on some pedestal because in my experience the extended DR is what makes it special ... not the high ISO performance which is still behind prior Fuji models.

The G11 isn't doing to shabby here at all IMO and it has RAW available which Fuji has (currently) only on the S200EXR. Yes the F200/F70 do decent at high ISO -but- above 800 isn't all that great in my tests ... the G11 (and likely S90) -may- have better light sensitivity with the new Sony sensor - let's see what the reviews show.

I never had a real problem with Fuji's(EXR's) shadows (or colors for that matter) -but- I do agree that Canon has made a valiant effort with the G11/S90 - what ashame they needed Sony's help to do it LOL. The plot (now) thickens as they say.

The photos look like they can come from any PnS.

So for those who are hoping to get this camera, it better be for the functionality.
I own the G10 and found it a bit slow on functionality and handling.

Personally I think the haters here are being a bit unreasonable. For ISO 800, in a medium sized camera, without a super fast lens those shots are half decent. They are close but not quite up to the GF1 micro 4/3s camera at the same ISO. Considering the G11 is a little more than half the price of the GF1 that is pretty good.

If only the G11 had HD video then I would have jumped on it. I would have paid at least $400 more for HD video. Well in fact I did by buying the GF1.

The shots look good but w/o knowing what the camera setting were do not mean much. It is difficult to impossible to make a judgement from a screen shot.
As long as the OP is happy is all that matters.

You got better examples to show? We're talking about same iso, of course
