Good luck to Canon aficionados!

Since most of the LX3 users I've seen post on here about the G11/s90 IQ say it is noticeably better at high iso than the old LX3. And the tiny size and fast f2 lens of the s90 can't be beat.

Had a G10, order the Leica DLUX4 (almost same camera), tried it for 2 days, found it too limiting as an "all around" carry camera (and too small), so returned it.

Looking forward to the new G11, its on order. G11 will be my carry everywhere camera, for serious work I always use the Nikon D700.

You do realize the LX3 is a year old, LX4 should be out soon. :-(
I found that there was rumor in July that LX3 successor will be announced in August. Now it seems that the rumor was definitely about GF1. LX3 is still going strong. :P
What I've read is that the LX3 successor is expected in early 2010. If, like Canon with the G11, Panasonic chooses to respond to what users say they want, the LX4 (or whatever they call it) should have a zoom that extends beyond 60mm (perhaps 85, but not anywhere close to the G11's 140; that would increase the lens size too much if the highly-desirable 24mm is retained), EVF as at least an option (like the GF1), and a new-generation high-sensitivity sensor.

Bob

Seriously, good luck to you. Hopefully now you can stop bashing Canon cameras that aren't even available yet and actually go out and take some photos ;)

'noticeably better at high iso than the old LX3' -- Have you thought what is sacrificed to get a high ISO performance?

See the followings (G11 at ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) and it is hardly spectacular.

James, Tom is over on the Panasonic forum and his early posts on the LX3 helped me to both get one AND choose my custom settings. Don't know him personally but he is a true asset to the dpr no matter which camera he is discussing.

Good luck with the LX3.

My new LX3 just came in today at lunch time, the battery is charging for when I get home. Can't wait to try it out and test different scenarios :) I am hoping it can take the place of my D90, well to a certain degree ;) But if it can handle many of my normal shooting situations I can sell the D90 and start carrying around a much lighter and smaller camera, and save money. The D90 and all the lens just end up staying home most of the time, not good! I never got the chance to see an LX3 in the store, but man is it smaller than I thought, so I am happy so far!

Horrible "test" subject - a very contrasty scene and these is somewhat "shallow" DOF going on as well that makes the background look like it lacks detail.

Look at DPR's s90 samples for very good high iso photos from those that know how to use a camera well.

If D90 is your only DSLR don't even think of selling it since every camera (especially the compact) has limitations.

I expect the limitations, if it does reasonably well I will be happy. Plus I can always borrow my brothers DSLR in a pinch. I am looking and really need a more portable solution and one that isnt too compromising. The LX3 is about as good as it gets, so we will see how it does in the next few days. Plus the D90 and lenses are about $3100 worth, this allows me to buy the LX3 and leaves plenty of money left for an upgrade in the future if the PS's get much better.

After the divorce. Feel good now?
How did you know I am a divorce?

Thank you for your good wishes. We wish you good luck also. Enjoy your new camera in good times.

You've said your goodbye, and proceeded to reply 11 times defending yourself in this thread. :O

Hope you counted the number of control wheels on the LX3 before buying..

I support my growing camera collection through this website.

If you find my comments as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me continue helping everyone.

It's great people like you who allow me to keep adding to this site full-time. Thanks!

If you haven't helped yet, please do, and consider helping me with a gift of $50.00.

Good luck with the Pany. Those Lumix lenses are typically as good as it gets on a fixed lens digicam (often rivaling higher end interchangeable lenses) and it usually shows in the picture quality.

For me the zoom range and manual lens cap limited my interest. I've found that I get more excellent images from a camera with good image quality and great handling and versatility than from a camera with great image quality and good handling and versatility. But thats just me.

I'll be replacing my smallest camera with an S90 and likely eventually trade in a G9 for a G11. They might not have the Pany Lens but I know I'll love the handling and zoom ranges.

Publicly justifying an expensive purchase is always the way to go! Listen, if you are happy with the camera once you try it out -- good. But there's no reason to try and slam two other cameras which haven't been released yet nor reviewed in depth. To end, all I have to say is good riddance to a captious person like you and to any others like you.
