DMC-ZR1 vs Fuji F70EXR

My comments were made conditional on the assumption that "5 MP was enough for you". Thus it is not a matter of "the BEST each camera can do no matter what....". If you are only going to display the photo using 5 MP or less, then it doesn't matter how brilliant the ZR1 is at full resolution --- you won't get to take advantage of it."
You can take advantage of full resolution with the ZR1 WHENEVER you want to..

With the F70EXR only 5 MP produces good IQ.

Unfortunately you are 'trapped' at 5 MP for good IQ with the Fuji with no good full resolution choices and that is a limitation you should never be stuck with...

For all intent and pupose the Fuji F70EXR is a 5 MP camera...which is fine many purposes ...but not enough for others...

You seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing, simply repeating your point while ignoring mine.

If you are ever going to need more than 5 MP of resolution, then the higher megapixels of the ZR1 is an advantage, no argument.

If, however, you are never going to need more than 5 MP --- and some people don't --- then the higher megapixels of the ZR1 is not an advantage.

Your point is that you KNOW that you'll never need more than 5MP...
I don't know that for sure.

My point is our needs may differ over time...over image...over size..over detail and you have no good option with the F70EXR...you are 'trapped' at 5MP for good IQ.. unlike the ZR1...and that F70EXR limitation is unfortunate and limiting.

I don't want to be 'trapped' by 5MP if I don't have to be.

I didn't read the reviews at first. I looked at photos on Flickr. And now some CX2 photos are there as of 2 days ago and look quite impressive. Some action captures, portraits, miniaturization, high contrast...

Oh yea, just awful. Bad, bad CX2. ;)

The CX2 uses the same sensor as the CX1...unfortunately...
From the http://www.dcresource.com CX 1 test conclusion:

"Ricoh has done a good job creating a camera that has the tools that photographers want (well, except for manual controls). Unfortunately, they aren't spending enough time on the most important feature a camera can have: good photo quality. If the CX1 had a decent noise reduction system, then it would be a really compelling product. Unfortunately, that's not the case, so we'll have to hope they do better next time. The bottom line here is that you're better off spending your hard-earned cash on something else."

The same argument can be made for a lot of features. You should never buy the LX3 or even the s90 or G11 because you may need more zoom. You should never buy the ZR1 because you may need to make a low light capture at high ISO.

Every camera requires you to give up something. Buyers must make a judgement about what things they are willing to give up because they don't think they are likelly to miss them much.
