I am about to buy an Olympus E20P, mainly for landscape work, it is the most expensive camera I can go for, so i want to make the right choice.

At present I am using a Fuji 602Z and am not completely happy with the image quality, (I sell my photos).

I gather that it is a good studio camera, but what about landscape?

Am I right in thinking that this will be the best DSLR for the job, or would you recomend anything else, at a similar price ?

Thanks, I have spent a lot of time in this forum to help me decide.

Here is a typical landscape, how will a DSLR compare?

I personally much prefer Film in Medium Format or higher for Landscape work. Unless you can afford a high end Digital Back for Medium format, The DSLR's don't handle Foliage very well in my opinion with Landscapes having a very 1 dimensional, fake video/digital look to them.

Film in digital format is not an option for me, I work entirely in digital from
shot to finished print.
do you think the pic I have posted has a very 1 dimensional, fake
video/digital look , your comments will be appreciated.

I am going to buy a DSLR, I just want to get the best to work with that I can afford right now.

Hi, Cedric.

My best advice: If you can wait for a few weeks before making a decision.... Olympus is 'scheduled' to announce their new digital SLR system. It's rumoured to be 'similar' to the E20, but with interchangeable lenses, and a larger sensor(?). Price? So far, it's all speculation, but it's expected to be a less expensive alternative to the Canon/Nikon SLRs.

Even if the new Olympus/Kodak project turns out not so suit your needs, it may also drive down the prices of the E20.

Good luck.

Yes, I do think this image has a very flat, digital look about it. Of the current Digital cameras selling for less than 3k, The Fuji S2 is the only one which I have seen images of Green Foliage from that look fairly close to natural. All this will probably change a lot by the time this month is out though Due to new Digital camera announcements at Photikna(sp). I know you want something at a lower price point than the S2. Perhaps you should wait for the new camera announcements and reviews here before making your decision.
