Hi

After shelling out £530 for my 2100, my thoughts drifted to the problems that I would have if it all went wrong. As I understand it, if the printer fails in the first year, I would have to send the printer into Epson for a free repair etc. Now the size and weight of the 2100 would incur a fair amount of shipping costs, then there is the in connivance of being without a printer.

Epson UK is selling an upgrade to the standard 1-year warranty to 3-year onsite warranty for £164 (inc vat).

My question is has anyone on this forum had experience with this type of Epson warranty upgrade, if so, is it any good and is it worth it?

Cheers Roy

I believe under UK consumer law you are entitled to return a faulty product and get a full refund if it fails within the first year.

Assuming your printer does not fail for 2 or 3 months then, POSSIBLY by then, 2100s will be widespread and you will be able to simply return your faulty one, get your money back and, perhaps, probably be able to buy another 2100 for less than you have just paid.

I think Which magazine recently published a report on how poor but how expensive many of these extended warranties are.

About 18 months ago I had a well-known router whose power supply kept going bang - known fault - but as I got it from my local PC World I simply kept taking back the faulty one, demanding a new one ("If you're not going to exchange it I want my money back!") and walking out of the shop with it. This happened more times than I could mention and, in the end, the US manufacturer actually designed a new power supply for it such was the vocality of my complaints in online forums. In this respect, where possible, buy locally and you save yourself the worry of sending goods back which are faulty - and you do not waste hours on telephone queues.

One last point, I know Jessops do a standard £134(?) 3 year warranty on their cameras and, I believe, it also covers other electronic goods... Not sure if you have to buy the goods from them first though.

As regrads the Jessops warranty, info is here, cost is £79.90 and it sounds very comprehensive.

I got this, slightly more expensive, for my D60 that I got form Jessops. This is unclear whether you can add it to purchases from other companies but, I would guess, that are insurers out there. Endsleigh might be a good one to try?
