Sal has been banned

I agree, if his comment was so distressing then I think they should not be on any forum , and should retract the ban, this forum is for solicited views and opinions, and any comment good or bad should be taken on board as a valid opinion, and this forum will be a sadder place without the lovable SAL

for a week.

The person that complained was being very petty, IMHO.

See you soon, amico.

I don't have a dog in this fight, sorry Junk Yard I couldn't resist, but If it was for the comment I think, it's ridiculous he was banned / suspended.

I enjoy this board and appreciate everything the moderators must go through to keep it running but they have on occasion made it less than user friendly because of the close monitoring of forum etiquette. I've seen some very talented people and strong contributors to the forums move on because of it.

I really don't understand someone complaining about a comment that wasn't directed toward them , especially considering that Sal's comments are normally humorous and it should have been taken in that context.

In any event I hope he's back soon. I enjoy his humor, talent and contributions.

We should all post photos of cars and girls in protest ........... we will miss you Sal . Come back soon and behave yourself.

Best,

Bob

I 2nd that.
Cars + Girls + bring back Sal.

Ah he is a Good old sort + he enjoyes himself here + I dont think he would Intentionally publicly humiliate anyone.

Very sad really....
I think the moderators need to moderate more effecively.

We now seem to have a position whereby whenever a complaint is made, action appears to be taken which is a ban.

I believe that where a moderator receives a complaint they should assess the severity or seriousness of the matter and have available, other options instead of a ban for 7 days, 2 weeks, 4 weeks or whatever.

Moderators could drop an e mail to the person who has allegedly acted improperly, asking for their comments/clarification...that does not happen.
You are charged guilty before defence is offered.

Other measures could be taken such as advising contributors to adjust/kerb their behaviour in future, failing which more stringent actions, such as a ban, may be taken.

I think that would be a beter system and I hoppe the moderators might consider it.

In the meantime Sal...see you next week...keep your chin up and I am sure someone will post some girls for you to look at in the meantime......

All the best

Ray

Moderated. I actually got a one week ban recently. It told me how to contact them to contest it, so I did and never got a response back. In fact, I never really was told why I was banned other than "Trolling/Flaming/Abuse". When I asked what specifically got me banned, I got no response.

It seems that the point of punishment is lost if the punishee doesn't know why they are being punished.

Unfortunately we probably won't get any explanation on his ban or how they decide to ban people. It seems quite randomly targeted. I've seen some things quite surprising stay on the forum and never be deleted or any of the users be banned, while other times the mods decide to throw a ban at someone for apparently nothing (never a warning mind you).
The irony is that Sal contributes retouches all of the time and also gives honest critiques of others retouches. The complainer does neither.

And yet, it's Sal that gets banned from the retouching forum. Go figure.

I think it is presumptuous of us to assign blame to any one person when we have no way of knowing the circumstances. The way people have been talking and posting on other threads a particular person is targeted. This person, if I have it right, has always been polite and encouraging to others and has been a big contributor to this forum. She deserves respect for this and I’m sure there is more to it then we are seeing…IF she is even the one that complained.

As for the way moderators make their decisions we cannot expect them to make their private communications public. As with any disciplinary action the particulars must be private as they should be. We have no idea if Sal had received a warning in the past or what was said between Sal and the moderators.

TOS must be followed to keep the forum a good place to spend our time. We all make mistakes…even moderators….If it were me I would just come back next week and let this drop…It does no one any good to finger people and assign blame.

When people died for the freedom of speech.
Probably those times will never come back.
Now people get banned and sued ... very sad.

Even a little innuendo interpretation (subjective for sure) can get someone banned. Jeeze. Just don't understand. I remember when we were about to be deployed for Iraq (early 90's) that we were told not to give the OK sign to the natives since they will see it as the Evil Eye. It's getting a little crazy to try to placate to everyone's beliefs in order to be politically correct. Pretty soon all we are going to see is flat landscapes since photos can be interpreted as child abuse (if it's a child's pic), or provocative since a person decides to go bare-foot and a picture was captured for interpretations. Oh well. Sal's still my pal and I'm (and many here) are still with you buddy. :)

are we allowed to know why sal was banned??. and if not why not?. just hope he does not say sod it and disappear from this forum, he and mr guselli seem to feed of each other and have been doing some amazing work lately, bemused!, slim

well said ray, i posted a picture last night just knowing that sal would fill it with beautiful girls, just hope he does not take the hump and leave us, slim

Since Amazon now owns this website, complaints to the top executives there might be called for. If they hear about the inconsistencies in banning participants, then maybe they'll ban some of the moderators.
