Been playing around with a plugin' called Topaz Simplify which helps you render the painting-look to any image. It works for some, but not for all. D300 & 17-55 @ ISO 200.

Washington Arch / Tribute In Lights [1.6s at f/11]

Brooklyn Bridge [1/640 at f/9]

Central Park [1/250 at f/11]

Gapstow Bridge [1/250 at f/7.1]

Yankee Stadium Pano [1/1000 at f/8]

Engine Company 33 [1/160 at f/8]

... Very nice work, really does look like oil paintings..

ps ; Dez took your words to heart and will be getting a "Mint D300" this weekend.
Passed on the D200/70-200 2.8VR and found the D300 very next day.....;-)

Hi Dez,

for me, the bridge and the yankees stadium work really well.

The arch bridge could be a painting! :)

I like it when people show their artistic interpretations of images.

Plugins are great fun and a part of the art of digital photography for me.

cheers.

Jon.

Nice "snap shots." :)

The first photo looks like it could be a painting. I guess I haven't seen enough paintings to know what result a painting filter should produce. In my opinion, they never work! But whatever is going on with your first photo, it looks cool. The second photo is possibly my favorite. I'm a huge architecture photography buff without the patience to do it myself. I enjoy things less when I try to master them myself - go figure. I just love all the lines it looks great. That was near 17mm with your 17-55?

nice

To my eye, Gapstow Bridge comes off looking more like a painting than the others. Nice effect.

That's great Jon. Now, the Sigma 10-20 and you're set. You seemed like you were interested in a wide angle, so I figured why sway from that. Good luck with you new combo and thanks!

Call this my version of your Lucis :P

Sometimes the effect doesn't work. Other times, it does. Thanks for commenting.

No, didn't I tell ya. I brushed these :P Thanks.

Actually I made a mistake. The first two and the last were with the 12-24 at 12mm

Interesting stuff, though pushing images in these directions is not my cup of tea -- more of a distraction, given how much I still have to learn about straight-up photography. I will say I liked the look of the bridge, though. But I think that image works more for its form and simplicity, and would probably be just as nice as a straight-forward photo.
