After all the reading of this forum and a little shopping around, I've sort of concluded that it does not matter when it comes to brands for accessories. Anything can fit to the G2 as long as the adapter or rings are available, to match the thread sizes. At first, I thought there were compatibility requirements and so forth.

But after checking what lens/converters are the most powerful on the forum, I find more powerful ones in the market. So the list is endless and not exhaustive.

I've found 0.38x wide angle converters and 2.5x telephoto (3x too but adapter was not available at that time). So far, no vignetting problems... still keeping a lookout for higher power ones then.

So, for all new to G2, dun worry about the brands and models recommended or available, as long as they fit and looks good to you, they are it.

What are the brand and model of the converters you mention? Can you post sample images?

Just because it will screw onto the end of a G2 doesn't mean it should be there. Take the Titanium series for instance. Absolute junk. Most non-OEM lenses on the market are for video cameras not still cameras. IMHO...there are very few quality lenses on the market to choose from. Canon, Olympus and some say Tiffen are good, though I must disagree with the Tiffen based on the examples I have seen. BTW, the glass in my Olympus A-200, 1.5 teleconverter is awesome! A perfect fit to my G2 with the Lensmate adapter. Just wish Olympus had made a 3X!

sure, but ppl shopping for these accessories should note that, in the experience of numerous other users..

(a) tiffen lenses are pretty good for the price
(b) canon and oly are better, but more expensive, bigger and heavier

(c) raynox, kodak, etc are awful and should be avoided like the plague (horribly CA, softness, distortion, etc)

How do you deal with LENS errors because it hits the back of the teleconverter? I just got the A-200 & I get that problem. Another poster said he gets aroud this problem by using a UV filter in between which I'll prolly investigate soon, but I worry about more vignetting.

Youth:

Are you using a LensMate or another adapter? I never have the problem you mentioned as I always attach the A-200 to the LensMate with a Minolta AC L 35 (UV) filter in between. The Minolta is one of the thinnest UV filters made. I also do the same with my polarizer. As a matter of fact, I can even zoom back a little without vignetting which I understand can not be done with the Tiffen. Most of my "far reaching" (relative term here) photos on my pbase were shot with the Olympus A-200. An awesome lens for the money, IMHO.

G'day Mate!

I ususually screw the A-200 onto a UV/Lens Hood combo and
don't get any vignetting. Two filters are no problems, maybe even
three will work.

I'm using a lensmate. You're not seeing it because you have it on a UV filter. I guess it's too close if you screw it on directly. Oh well I guess it time to shop for a UV filter.

Will feedback the brand and model later... left the info somewhere ...can't find it yet. I bought the wideangle one but still trying to find a higher than 2.5x telephoto converter.

Do you wan me to snap a certain subject for you, to test the wideangle ability? I'm sort of a beginner, so you have to be a little specific what you want me to snap.... is it at minimal zoom, sharpness +1, auto P mode, use tripod, etc.? What's the best way to test.... snap a building and its sides at an upward angle to see if the pic concaves?

My images are with me/people in it, so I can't post them here....sorry. I seldom take scenery pics by itself.

The brand/model is TAMA F130. Telephoto is the same brand plus other brands as well. Made in Japan.

Where can one be found? A sample of a brick wall would be great! Also a tree with leaves in the corners.

The following pic is from G2 lens no zoom :-

And the following is with 0.38x converter :-

Do you have any samples of such comparisons with your converters? Hope to see them too.

Morris,

Edit thumbnail properties and paste the link on browser. Replace the word "small" with "large" and reload - Blurring and softness on picture is terrible - pictures are useless unless to make thumbnails !!!

Typical camcorder chromatic aberrations and softness.

And while I can't be sure, this doesn't really look like it is 13mm equivalent. That 0.38x looks more like 0.8x to me.

Hi Paulo,

"Blurring and softness" .... do u mean the overall picture or parts of it? Are u referring to the way I took the picture or the wideangle converter?

As mentioned in another post, the pics have been compressed about 30% to reduce upload time and save space. Is that the cause of it? Will try posting the original pics, with my 56K connection later.

Hi eg,

Are u referring to the wideangle converter as the cause of the "camcorder chromatic aberration and softness"?

Do you have pics to compare between normal G2 and 0.8x converter? As mentioned before, I'm just a beginner and may have been taken in by the shop vendor. Not sure of what kind of quality I'm supposed to get when comparing brands. Perhaps I should go back to vendor and take sample pics from Canon 0.8x to compare against my 0.38x.... u think that's better?

Thanks.
