Have I got a malfunction here?

I'd posted something on this the other day thinking I had a problem with Custom Function 2...but now, even afer a call to Canon service, I'm not so sure.

Can someone chime in here and tell me what happens on your D30/D60 when you press the * button if you have Custom Function 2=2?

According to what has been published elsewhere, when Cfn2=2 "the AE lock button ( ) now functions as an AF lock instead. This setting is sometimes preferable in AI Servo when your main subject is temporarily blocked by another subject..."

In other words, according to the above, when I've got Cfn2=2 I'm to achieve initial focus with a half press to the shutter button...and then I'm supposed to be able to LOCK the focus with a press to the * button. (I'm assuming the behavior would be the same whether in AI Servo or One Shot mode?)

My question is...after pressing the * button, aren't I supposed to get some kind of indication that focus has been locked? Something like the green dot staying lit? As it is now, I don't get any indication that anything is happening at all.

Can someone tell me what happens on your D30/D60?

Thanks,

Taz,

when you press the button, it focuses, having nothing whatsoever to do with shutter button. If you take your finger off button, the focus is locked at that setting. If you're using AI, you keep your finger on the button and it changes focus on a moving object. So when you have function set, the shutter button no longer has anything to do with focus.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Christie...Well, I thought before I called Canon today that with Cfn2=2, focus was supposed to be on the asterisk (AE) button too. I think I got hold of a fairly new rep that had me going round in circles there for awhile. I don't use that function set to option 2 that often, so I really couldn't remember.

Either way...as nothing at all happens when I press the asterisk button, it appears it is not functioning as it should.

Now...to decide if I can live with it that way or take my chances with sending it in...

Thanks for confirming things, Christie.
