Hello,

I've been looking at this software and have read where it can take "some" time to paint a picture. If I was looking at doing a 12x18 pic at 300 dpi does anyone have an idea how long it would take? Ball park is fine ie 10 mins, 30 mins 2 hours.

Many thanks,

Jim

...at that size I'm guessing 30 minutes plus? Of course if you are watching it paint you might see results you like before that much time has elapsed. My web sized files (500X750 pixels) take around five minutes to reach my liking. Here is a link to a half dozen or so of mine: http://grigsbys.smugmug.com/Digital-Darkroom/Other-FUN-Stuff/A-few-hours-spent-in-front-of/1241977_a4chE/5 And really if you get a one-of-a-kind master piece who cares if it takes a couple hours? Just let it run while you watch TV some evening :0)

Depending on what you wish the outcome to be will times will be different. Alot of folks will use the minimum strokes , which is quite fast and finish in PS different effects with layers.
I use original images from my camera 14x9 native size 300dpi all the time.
Sometimes I use a custom size other that native size. Larger and smaller.

If I want to let it run for a long time on continuous, I will just minimize the screen and go do something else and chedk on it now and again to see what the outcomes will be.
Can you do in 10 min sure.
Give it a try...It is interesting to relax and watch it paint:> ))
Have fun

On my i7 64 it gets to 10k strokes in about 3 minutes, on my P4 it was like 20 minutes.

I have no idea what i7 is... I did try the program and depending the the brush size it makes from 50 to 250 strokes per second .

:) i misread last night... I guess it was pretty late and didn't see the "k" after the 10
hehe :) so it sounded way too slow to have 10 strokes per 3 min.

As many people mentioned before, it depends on several circustances and settings. My experience is that when doing something more impressionist than realist, it can be done faster than the opposite.

The last one I did, was a detailed pictures of a clock tower in with Monet preset. I wanted it very detailed. After 28 hrs working I just stopped and cloned some parts of the sky not finished.

Now, it is true you can minimize the software and keep on working in something else, but take in consideration that DAP strongly uses the processor.

When it was working on my painting, I opened photoshop and was working, tried to apply Topaz Denoise, and nothing! until I paused DAP Denoise was crawling...

Yeah, that would be a bit too slow, especially when the i7 has 8 processors.
