This is a new Photoshop plug in just accounced by Topaz Labs.

However, it seems to work only on relatively small images. When I try it on large images, such as from my 5D mkII, I get errors.

Anyone else see this problem?

Joe

Hi Furano. No problem there. I just read your reply in the other thread about not having to use the action, so I'm going to try that. You were saying you can just create the tri mask and run the plugin. Sounds good. I will try it and let you know how that worked out. Thanks for the info. :-)

Got back a quick response, but I suspect that lots of folks may be seeing this same problem.

Joe

From Topaz:

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I am happy to assist you with this issue.

This error message is also often related to memory and the size of an image.

As a test, you can try using a smaller image and see if you still get the error message.

Also, please try reducing the amount of memory that Photoshop is allowed to use down to about 70%.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great weekend!

Yeah Karen, I found easier to do the lines in the mask area easier than getting the action.

I downloaded the bundle software a few hours ago, but have not received the key code to use it. I just send my second e-mail to try and get it. Not sure what the problem is ......

Hi,

Just downloaded this - the pdf user manual refers to loading the topaz_mask.atn but I cannot locate this anywhere ? Is it supposed to be installed with the installation ? If so - where has it put it ??? Or are you supposed to download the action elsewhere ?

If it seems too good to be true - then it isn't. If you cannot believe your eyes - then don't.

Hi

I also get the same error. I reduced the file size by 50% and then got another error 'procEngine: error code -878' I have my Photoshop memory usage down to 60%.

I'll contact Topaz support and see what they say about this one.

I went to edit/preferences in photoshop and changed my performance settings thus:

Available RAM 1691MB
Ideal Range: 930-1218 MB

Let Photoshop use 1015 MB (60%)

Afterwards, I was able to successfully use Topaz ReMask on my full sized 5D MKII image.

Karen,
What's your ram? and How much do you have assigned to photoshop?

It is very important to leave RAM for other programs (or plug-ins) when working in Photoshop. They suggest somewhat about 60% but if not required, that is even high.

If you work with panoramas or really huge pictures then it's fine, but if you're using 25 Mp or smaller files then even 40% is enough and then you leave RAM for other software to use.
Sounds good Redlion. I'll try it because I'm still getting the same error message too. Thanks so much.

ReMask is a little different than many plug-ins... I guess the lack of a user interface is part of it =) it may be a bit different than what you're used to at first.

I've written an explanation on the Topaz blog that should answer some of the more common questions about the Actions workflow and certain error messages (like the "Make" command one). Just go to the website and click "blog" if you want to read it.

The cliff notes version:

The actions are there to be used on their own. If you use actions, ONLY use actions - don't, for example, try to create a layer mask before the action. But it is possible to run ReMask without actions. If you do this, just make sure you follow this condition:

You must have a layer selected with a layer mask containing white, gray, and black. The layer itself must be selected (not the layer mask).

If you run ReMask from the Filters menu keeping the above in mind, everything will be all gravy. Hope that helped a bit!

I'm getting a server reset error trying to download the program from topaz labs download page. The other programs seem to download but not remask.

The actions are actually located as follows:

Mac: HD-> Application Support-> Topaz Labs-> Topaz ReMask-> Actions

Windows: C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs\Topaz ReMask\Actions

I'll also be putting it up in the ReMask webpage for download soon too.

Too much download volume right now after the newsletter ;) . Try clicking the "ALT" link on the right - I just tested it and those work fine right now.

Hi Furano. I have over 80 gb installed on my machine, and over 66 gb in one partition. What I can't understand is why photoshop only shows 644 mb of ram. I changed my scratch disc settings to assign it to my C drive because it was set to "start up" and I rebooted my machine, but it is still only showing a maximum of 644 mb. That could be the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Thank you again for all your help.
