It looks like i'm going to have a real hard time to choose 3 best pictures. Most of them are very professionnal.

To help making a choice, I was thinking about building a web page with thumbnails of all entries. Cliking on a thumbnail will bring the voter to the corresponding page of the entry in the forum. I think that would help a lot in comparing the various candidates. What do you think?

Unfortunately, I don't have any web space where I could host that page. But may be others could?

AirBete.

Hi AirBete,
Sounds like a good idea to me... in fact it had crossed my mind too. :-)

You know, if we weren't all so danged good at our photography it wouldn't be such a problem! ;-)

If you would like to build the html page, I will host it on the NTF Members site in the soon to arrive Challenge section. We are already going to have a gallery of winners of each Challenge, so another gallery of all the entries for each Challenge would be fantastic!

If you would like to go ahead with a page, and others are happy with it, you can e-mail me the completed html file and I can import it to the gallery page on the NTF Members site.

If you have a look at photos in the NTF Members Gallery,
http://www.magicbracket.com/ntfmembers/gallery.htm

I think that is about the correct size to make these. They are 200 pixels on their maximum dimension (they fit in a 200x200 square).

Let me know what you think.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Offe,
South Australia.

Ok. I'll work on the html page and thumbnails and I'll send the files to you by email. Is a tarball ok or do you prefer a zip archive?

OK
This is really peculiar.
I have never seen anything like this before,
And I don’t know what to make of it (And has anyone else noticed)
When I view his image as a thumbnail it looks like this.

But when viewed as full image it’s cropped.

(What did you do Myron) ….

Thomas,

I am as puzzled as you are. I normally work with ThumbsPlus and the thumbnails look as expected. However when I look at the same folder in thumbnail view directly from the operating system (I use Windows XP professional) I see the same results you pointed out.

Although, I normally shoot in fine (2560x1920 - full), for that shot, I enabled continuous and what I posted was the second of 6 shots (holding shutter all the while) that I caught before he scampered.

It wasn't until I viewed results in my computer that I realized that the continuous series had been taken at 1280x960 SXGA.

I did not consciously make that change but assumed my fingers could have gotten in the wrong place. (Now I'm wondering.)

I just now did a further test by cropping a 2560x1920 fine in the same folder and IT DOES NOT exibit this strange behavior.

Since I was more than pleased with the lack of pixilation from that tight crop (24%) of an already reduced size image (1280x960) I posted that as my challenge entry.

Thanks for pointing this out and I hope my description above can help solve the mystery.

(Where's Peter iNova when you really need him?) ;-)

Myron

Well..
It really is baffling and new to me.
The only thing I can think is going on is:

Maybe the image has changed but the text file is displaying another type of file than JPEG.
Or ????????
Either way it’s a cool image, this doesn’t disqualify it.

…. (I guess that’s what counts) ….

Hi Myron,

I'm having the same problem with Windows XP Professional. Some of my thumbnails show correctly, while others insist on showing the original picture!

I think it's a problem with the operating system, and I've tried fooling around with the "Disable Thumbnail Cache" option, but it doesn't seem to do anything...

First off posting and now first off voting. That has to be worth something!

Darn it was hard to vote. I had picked out 10 pictures that really stood out from the rest and then It was just pure feeling that made me vote for the 3 photos I voted for. Maybe I should have waited until the morning, but then again... I'm sure the votes would have been the same.

All entries were great, more than great... so it was REALLY hard to pick out those 10 first, then even harder to pick out the last 3. I don't envy you guys who still have to vote!

Thanks blend48 and Michael and everyone else being part of this.... for this wonderful challenge!

Hi,
Thanks for that.

I will get it online ASAP.

I slept in after staying up late lastnight/moning to submit my entry! :-)

Michael Offe.

P.S. Good work!
AirBete.

files to you by email. Is a tarball
Not sure what that is... :-)
ok or do you prefer a zip
Zip is fine.
Michael Offe.
P.S. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Hi Petra,
I have been trying to e-mail you the last 2 days. Did you recieve anything?

I may have an incorrect e-mail address. :-)

Could you send me an e-mail, and I will reply with my message.

Thanks

Congratulations on being the FIRST! Not sure if that will cause you to win... maybe some lazy people will just select the first three entries entered... in which case you may win!

LOL

Hi Michael/Airbete,

Great idea. Can't wait to see it!

Michael, can you please post a follow-up (reply) on the voting post to direct members to the site. I never expected such a large number of entries, that thumbnails would be required!

Thanks for all your help!

for being the first! :)
I think I'll wait for AirBete and Michael to setup the Thumbnail page first.
Guys! Thank you for your efforts and contributions.

With warm regards,

I'm going to vote tomorrow. I think I'll show them at the office to get some input....they all think they are art directors anyway!

What a great bunch of photos! Good luck to everybody who submitted and thanks to all who organized the review....

Hi Petra,

Thanks for setting a good example for how people should post/vote for a photo! Hopefully people will follow your lead and put their votes in the subject line!

You will be forever famous as being the first ever poster/voter for the Nikon Forum Challenge. Now that in itself has to be worth something!

Keep taking those great photos!

Hi Airbete/Michael,

The thumbs page looks absolutely amazing! It really gives the challenge a proffesional look. Also looking at all the images on the one page really helps.

As some people already suggested, these photos really could belong in some magazines...

Thanks for all the hard work!
