some shots are a little shaky as it was all shot handheld, though generally pleased with the results.

the beginning shots up until a minute into it were almost all iso 1600 with a lot of motion. after the one minute mark there are some nice shallow DOF shots - though a tripod could have smoothed some of them out. all in all, the OIS seems pretty good even at full zoom, where its most needed

Very nice! If I keep looking at the nice videos you guys are making with the GH1, I might really have to change my mind about getting the GF1...

Looks like the 60fps really helps too... at capturing the motion, as well as giving you some smooth slow-motion effects.

Good job! The only thing I'd change is that song in the middle when you are showing some nature shots. The song towards the end is right on though!

-Thanks! I shoot almost everything in 720 60p that either has a lot of motion in the shot or will have camera movement. I've been using the 1080 24p for more static shots, which works nicely in a 720 timeline as it can either be cropped or reduced to fit 720 (such as the dog scene which was shot in 1080)

Are you referring to the song with the piano and the woman's voice or the one that comes in during the turtle scene? Both could probably be changed the more I think about it.

I liked hearing the piano part, but as soon as the woman starts singing, it didn't sound like a good fit for the footage you were showing. The other one is a bit better with some percussive instruments in there, but I too would probably change them both. It's all good after the 3:50 mark though! Perhaps something instrumental in the middle would better fit the scenes? I like to use Enya or something similar for nature work.

NICE! I got excited when I saw the mini ramp, then the bikes. I have been thinking of the GH1 or now GF1 and would be using it a lot for video of BMX racing and freestyle.

I have had access to a Nikon D50 pretty much whenever I wanted to use it. I have wanted to buy my own SLR, and having good quality video would make the camera a slam dunk.

Do you think action shots from a GH1 or GF1 would campare favorably to a D50?

Thanks,
Mark

I've been researching video for the GH1 as I await my own GH1 (which is coming later today). I'm really looking forward to making videos, but it appears that everyone is using Final Cut Pro to do video work. In particular, it appears you need FCP to do some of the smooth slow-motion stuff that I'm seeing on Vimeo.

However, all I have right now is iMovie and Voltaic for my Mac. Voltaic will convert the MTS files for editing in iMovie, and I really like using iMovie. But if I understand correctly, you need to "conform 60p to 24p" to do the super smooth slow-motion effect from the GH1. And you can't do that with iMovie, right? iMovie can do slow-motion, but I believe it just duplicates frames instead of conforming them to the 24p timeline (this is all new to me).

Are you familiar with this? I really can't afford to spend another $850-1000 on Final Cut Pro just to do this nice slow-motion effect. Is there something less expensive that can do it on the Mac?

Thanks,
Travis

I just looked at the D50 page at:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD50/

to familiar myself with that camera. Looks like the GH1 would perform on par - probably better than the D50 for action shots especially since the GH1 has a claimed 3.5 frames per second compared to the 2.5 fps of the D50.

When it comes to the bike shots, I am mostly shooting video. The still shots of action sports that I have shot have come out great - even some nights ones with the built in flash.

I have been using Adobe Premiere 4.1 and I just drop in the footage into a sequence and set its speed at 50%. I use a pc and honestly do not work much with Macs - used to, just not anymore.

Sure there must be something out there - try the Premiere demo that you can download from Adobe. Maybe Premiere elements if there is such a thing for mac.
