I have been having problems with my 7i I just bought last week from USCameraOne in NY supposedly new. I just saw the recall for 7i cameras that were shipped in July or later. They start with 952 and 962 serial numbers. Sooo, apparently mine is an older one from June or before, I am thinking. Which leads me to believe that it is not factory fresh, brand new. That is probably why the lenscap was missing and it will not recognize any CF cards.

Anyone have any thoughts or info on this situation?

My S/N is very close to yours and I've had no problems with my camera. I got mine when they first came out from Amazon.com. So I assume I have one of the earlier production runs.

Mine has a serial number very close to yours (only the last two digits differ), and it was shipped from Amazon.com on May 18. I'm fairly sure Amazon shipped it to me the same day they received it, or soon after, since it had been backordered for weeks before then.

Did your camera include a CF card? My camera had a 16MB SanDisk
compact flash card.

How many different brands and sizes of compact flash cards have
you tried?

Does the camera have a USA warranty card or is it a "grey import"?

William

Yes, it did come with th SanDisk 16MB card. It wont read it, nor will it read my Ridata 512 MB card. Both of those cards work fine with other cameras. I suspect I got a "used/refurbed" camera. It was missing the lensecap too but has all the other goodies including the US Warranty and English Manuals. I just got it Friday night from UPS, poorly packed I might add. Double boxed but no cushioning material so definite movement there. This find about the serial numbers really leads me to believe I got a used camera. They would not have the 7i stock sitting around for 3-4 months I am sure, with the demand for these. I have yet to talk to Minolta since they have been closed since I received the camera.

No reason to complain to Minolta about this - complain to the retailer that sold it to you. The retailer is the one who took your money so they are the one that are responsible for giving you a complete camera and one that works correctly. Also, the problems you are experiencing have nothing to do with the new recall. Call the retailer you bought the camera from and have them exchange it.

My serial # is 942204xxx and I have had absolutely no problems with my camera what-so-ever... with the exception I cannot make mine lockup with the old ver 1.00 firmware. If your having problems, I doubt very seriously that the serial number and the camera not being "FACTORY FRESH" has anything to do with your problems whatever they may be, as you didn't elaborate on anything specific.

Sheeech...I never knew that it was possible to buy a stale camera. I better start checking the serial numbers on my bread wrappers.
