Where is my Canon aps-c point and shoot?

anytime soon. Canon is probably happy with the IQ from the S90 and doesn't see the benefit/profit from a aps-c sensor based P&S.

Canon may be happy but we are not. They would sell like hotcakes.
I agree. bigger sensor = control over DOF, less noise and higher ISO. Not to mention being able to use better glass. The would sell ! The camera would only have to be slightly bigger than the G10/G11.

3rd.....hopefully on the 29th...:)

unless you want huge lens but not much focal length. The only reason we get cameras like G10/11 or the like is because sensor is small and lenses are small for the focal length.

The only time a smaller sensor with the same pixel count is superior to a larger sensor (aka higher pixel density) is when you are focal-length limited.

Hardly huge lenses. Look at the Leica M9. If they can do it, certainly Canon can do it.

Anything is possible. And bigger sensors will come about, you can count on it.

Remmeber the first Olympus clamshell 1Mg P&S? Now it's over 10Mb P&S.

Doubt it will happen soon, Canon will watch that segment of the Market carefully and if sales are seen to be doing well then we may possibly see one, but like most things, Canon and Nion will wait to see how the ep-1 and the Panasonic/samsung cameras do and then engage in that market, if sales are not great I doubt they will think it's worthwhile

If you're willing to give up autofocus.

It's why I got an Olympus E-P1 and I love it. It actually has more features than my 5D and similar resolution.

The results still amaze me and love not lugging a 5D and 24-105 around when travelling. However, if you look on M3/4 forum there is plenty of talk there about Nikon & Canon 'doing a similar thing'.

I spoke to a US Canon rep at a canon booth at a show that I won't mention to protect the US Canon rep person. I told him how much I would love to have a large sensor P&S size camera. He said, with a somewhat frustrated voice, he agrees and many people have asked for that and they have mentioned that to canon japan numerous times. However, canon japan team who makes the decision on these sort product direction doesn't listen to them.

remember the old film-based APS cameras. They had 3-5X zoom power, had autofocus and were compact cameras. No reason we couldn't have a digital version. However, we might lose some lens speed.

Since G11 isn't here yet, I'm waiting for Sep 29 announcement.

If picture worth a thousand words, how many megapixel is it?

Umm, FILM point-n-shoots have been around for decades, and those are FULL FRAME!! The lens can be made small, and with zoom.

APS-C p&s could totally happen and I would buy one. But it looks from the S90 that they've all but solved the ISO issues of small sensors.

Who needs it. In such a camera it would bu beter to have a good manual focus system. When is auto focus such a necessity. I shot for 30 yeras without it and hardly got a photo out of focus. Are you going to do sports with such a camera?
