Does anybody here know whether the 24mm TS-E II
(mark II) lenses are widely available in Hong Kong?

I'm visiting in a few weeks and thought I'd
get one there if they actually have them.
I see so many Hong Kong based stores selling
them on ebay and yet they've been out of
stock for months in the USA.

I haven't seen the 24mm TSE II here in HK, but then again I haven't been looking for it.

I'd suggest checking out shops like Tin Cheung (@ TST), Wing Shing (@ Mongkok), DC Fever (@ Mongkok Sim City). Those shops tend to have pretty good inventory... though there are others here too. Sim City is also neat since it has quite a few little shops selling used lenses (I recently got a good deal on a used 14L II).

FYI... I think most lens warranties are HK only but I could be wrong (be sure to ask).

FYI2... most places charge 2-3% more if you pay credit card instead of cash(but this can be negotiable)

FYI3... check out the below site to get a pulse on HK street prices ($7.8HKD = $1USD). Looks like last month's price on 24mm TSE II was ~$1900USD last month (@ Wing Shing). Likely this is cash price.

I have good experience of Wing Shing at Mongkok, where I got my 70-200 2.8L IS and TS-E 24 3.5L (mk I). They had practically all EF lenses in stock and you could take test shots with them. Very good service.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not too worried about the warranty since
I've never had a lens break on me after almost 20 years and
literally over 50 AF lenses, most of which were even in used
condition when I bought them. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Do any of these reliable HK companies ship overseas to USA?

If the overseas shipping is reasonable, it may be worth the
cost compared to the hassles of local travel and window shopping.

Hi Matt...

I don't have experience with getting lenses shipped as I live here in HK (so would normally buy in the shops).

Both Tin Cheung & DC Fever have websites... though only Tin Cheung is in English.

I checked Tin Cheung's website and they do indicate that they ship internationally so it'd be an option. Though I think you will likely pay full website price (you may get a savings if you negotiate in the shop esp if paying cash).

Not sure if these guys do ebay business, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

Good luck!

I got my 24 TS-E II from Man Shing Photos this afternoon (Tung Choi Street,
Mongkok, Kowloon)

I got my 17 TS-E 2 months ago from Chung Pui Photo Supplies (Stanley St, Hong Kong Island)

Both lenses are relatively easy to find in HK, but still in very short supply elsewhere (don't know why)

I frequent Tin Cheung in TST and find them to be reliable. You have the option of purchasing either a "grey import" with an in store warranty if you want. The General Manager's name is Ernest or you can ask for Kenneth. They have the lens in stock the last time I was there. If you want to trade in some of your lenses, they are also quite accommodating.

On the 2nd floor of their shop, is a huge variety of used cameras, bags, tripods etc...it's a photographer's shoppers paradise.
