Greetings! Are there any shirt pocketable compact cameras with viewfinder. I want to get one before they became obsolete. Most new cameras without optical viewfinder. With thanks.

Pockets vary, but Canon puts viewfinders in a lot of their cameras. The A1100 is pretty good and quite inexpensive but could be considered a bit lumpy for a shirt pocket. I suspect that anything that fits comfortably in a shirt pocket won't have an optical finder.

The A1100 does look pretty nice but the SD1200 also has a viewfinder and is quite a bit slimmer, no doubt due to the AA batteries that are used in the former (3.7 x 2.4 x 1.2 in) and Li-Ion in the latter (3.4 x 2.2 x 0.9 in). The A1100 has a 4x lens (35-140mm equiv.) vs a 3x lens (35-105mm) for the SD1200. The A1100 is also less expensive, going for $150 at Staples and $143 at B&H, vs $180 for the SD1200 at both Staples and B&H. I'd rather take my lumps and get the A1100 and I think that some others might as well.

Plenty really .. the last Canon IXus (SD in US) I bought ... the Ixus 960IS (to me) had a v/f and I think this has been maintained on the Ixus/SD range .. AND they are very pocketable - in fact I've always carried that type such way ..comfortably .. and also a VERY good camera that pleases quite a big number of people that go the small Canon way.

Price can be a bit 'up' to many.. but you get what you pay for .. and any of that type are capable of a lot of good service if you don't wish to keep making changes.

Canon SD990

Mostly Canons and also some older Sony models in their W series.

I use an SD950IS which has the G9 sensor and processor in a titanium body shell. Very nice camera, and I do use the optical finder. The later SD990IS uses the G10 sensor and processor and lacks the titanium shell, but otherwise is similar.

I use a neck cord on mine, so I can let it dangle around my neck, or tuck it in my shirt pocket with the cord still around my neck. Just putting the camera in a shirt pocket is risky. If you stop to tie a shoelace, and as you bend over - out comes the camera. Ooops!
