Why I love my DA*200mm lens, especially in the Autumn

Hee hee hee! LOL! :-) You guys from Reykjavik have a neat sense of humour Jonska! You made the thread even more interesting and fun! You are welcome my friend and also thank you.
Stay well
Leo
Here's another link.... looks like the affinity for escargot must run in the family... this one is in Maryland, USA ;)
Fascinating. Do you think they might be of French origin?

And they have humans in their service to tread on their snails for them? Absolutely ingenious! Not like the French at all. (I'm just kidding, all you French and francophiles! J'aime la France et tous les Francaises - well, the ones I've met personally anyway).

Seriously, though, I have read about an urban bird that has learned to drop nuts on zebra pedestrian crossings in the hope that they get stepped on by the hordes of crossers - but of course birds are of a higher order then arachnids (or are they?).

Thanks to Bud for the enlightenment and thanks to Leo for the photo that gave rise to the discussion.

Thank you very much for the kind words Mike! I love white flowers but they are the devil to shoot in bright light when you are trying to balance against a yellow and black bee!

Best regards mate
Leo
Excellent shooting Leo, I have never been a fan of white flowers (always thought they were colorless) but you have done a great job with them.

Here are some shots from around my garden with this fabulous lens. I love my Sigma 105mm Macro but somehow the 200mm piece of glass captures me!

A couple of days ago I put up a shot of a snail/slug that climbed a Black-Eyed Susan and was feeding on the base of the fading blossom...here is the same snail who is being fed on by a spider. Such is life! couldn't get a shot from the other side without destroying the garden but let your imagination work. It is kind of scary with just the legs showing!! DA*200mm, K20D, at ISO 400, f6.7, 1/90th of a second...all shots with this lens of course

Here are two shots of the bees around this set of weeds...I don't know what they are but the bees love the blossoms. Anyone identify this plant?

and the second bee

Ah what the heck and the final bee!

Anybody with shots of Autumn with this wonderful lens, feel free to post.

Best to all
Leo

Your samples have convinced me to use my DA*200mm more for near macro shots. I have the FA100mmF2.8 macro for this type of shots.

Hi Brent

It does seem like a picture from an illustrated Edgar Allen Poe book of horror stories doesn't it! Nature is full of things that are on the disgusting side e.g. the way spiders eat! Sucking up semi-digestive body fluids through piercing and sucking mouth-parts is indeed a horror and disgusting!

I am glad you liked the shot though...I was really taken with the colours of the fading Black-Eyed Susan blossoms! Hmmm! Of course I have a real fascination with the beauty of fading blossoms at this time of year! Weird Leo! ;-)
Thanks for coming by mate!

All the best
Leo
Geezz that sure is a beautiful image of the Black-eyed susan with a snail being devoured by DADDY LONG LEGS, grisly and beautiful at the same time oh the horror oh the horror is so sweet..

Great Work!! Gotta love the lens, white flower are okay with me..

Regards

Brent

Changing light gives me the possibility of seeing the world from a new
perspective.
For me photography is a tool for capturing these insights, for reflection and
sharing.

Very nice images, without your statements I would consider them captured with a real macro lens. Are those bees on steroids? They seems very hairy and masculine.

Hi Steeve!

I am glad to hear that you appreciate this lens too my friend...it is a jewel=un bijou! ;-) Glad you like the captures too and you have a wonderful Autumn also mon ami!

Hi Soheil,selam du'stem!

Yes these are big Solitary bees not Honey Bees, so they look more masculine for sure. Steroids eh! LOL! I love it!

The DA*200mm lens is an excellent near macro lens...it is sharp, has very good contrast and renders colours well! One could do a lot worse than own this fine piece of glass!
Warmest regards
Leo

Here is another one of the bees on steroids...notice he is covered in pollen and his pollen baskets on his hind legs are full! Also notice the little hooks (shaped like scimitars) on the end of his leg...these allow him/it to hang on while the he is busy, even on a windy day!

Best regards

Your pictures are cool. Not Autumn here (East TX) yet, but here is a simple one from last year. I am a huge DA*200 fan.

Hi Dane all the way from East Texas! Welcome mate! Thanks for posting your Autumn shot and a fine one it is too! It will be getting like that around here soon, although we don't have that many oak trees left up this way anymore! I took a look at your gallery...very nice work my friend, I enjoyed a quick tour and soon I will go back for a longer look! Well done sir and thanks for coming on by!

All the very best

Thanks for your comments, Leo. Clearly you must bias exposure to the right for the sake of household peace. I asked the question because of some reports here that the K-7 biases to the right, so I wondered if that was what you were using.

Any, these are wonderful photos, the kind that I greatly enjoy.

Oh it seems I was wrong about your farsi, you know it very well.

Very nice. I think you can send them to Vet. school to teach the anatomy to the students. And, I think you found the drug dealer suspect too.

Household peace is exactly right my friend!;- Actually she is a darling and encourages me to shoot away and buy whatever I want without rancor or comment! How's that for luck Joe! :-)

Thanks for your comments and your fine posts always...you, and many others like you, are the reason this forum is the great boards that it is! I am glad you liked the captures mate!
Warm regards Joe

Hee hee hee! That is a good one Soheil! Good sense of humour mate!

As for the language stuff, I am Greek and have always been interested in languages but especially of the Middle East, their music too. When I was young I read all kinds of stories about the Bedouins and the peoples of the Fertile Crescent and as I read I would eat dates and drink milk and dream of racing across the desert on an Arabian Stallion. I would even play Greek folk music as I read...it is very like Turkish and Egyptian music so it fit well! Silly eh! But nonetheless I picked up smatterings of this and that language, ,mostly greetings and such!
Glad you dropped by Soheil! Warm regards
Leo
