I have $50 to spend on a printer. I have a point and shoot camera (Fuji f200exr)and would like to make great prints to a max. size of 8 X 10.

Sounds like there are some great pritners out there for cheap.

hat is the best I can get ?

I do not believe you can achieve adequate quality for $50. Many online services (Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery, Adorama, and others) offer great prices on prints of virtually any size. You'll get far more bank for the buck.

Canon ip3600, $49.00 from b&h. See my post from a few minutes ago.

a refurbished epson workforce 30 or workforce 500 (aio)

They're not junk... they're what one might call... razor blade handles. epson (and all the other makers) want your ink business...

I honestly don't believe you can afford the disposable supplies (that's paper and ink) to use it on a regular basis. You can't possibly match the cost per print of a good "big box" photo department. And it's highly unlikely a $50 printer will match the photo quality, either.

Canon Pixma ip4700 $129 A bit high but I could break the bank.

Canon Pixma MP490 $79

Canon Pixma MP240 $79

Lexmark X5690 $69

I did a quick search at a local electronics store. All of these are pretty close to $50. They are brandnew. They claim to give excellent photo prints. Looks good to me. What about you.

Well,

A) none of those are $50, maybe some are close but you said $50 :)

B) I think what he was talking about is cost of ink and paper for these printers. Most of them have small ink cartrdiges that you'll run through fairly quickly. Ink and paper costs on an inkjet can very quickly exceed the initial cost of the printer itself - if you are truly limited to a $50 printer, I would advise you to stick with online photo labs.

To be perfectly honest, I have to agree with most of the other replies and say you aren't going to get a printer that gives you great 8x10 prints for $50. Also as mentioned, the cartridges and paper are where the cost will quickly escalate. Save your money and get the printing done locally instead. Even Wal-Marts with the Fuji Frontier systems do a decent job for what they charge.

If you are in the US.

Newegg has the Canon PIXMA iP4600 Inkjet Color Photo Printer for $80 - coupon code EMCLXMS24 [Exp 9/15] + $8 shipping = $48 shipped.

I picked up an ip4600 from buy.com for $58 several months ago, photo quality is definitely not near as good as the Epson Artisan 800 I just bought but probably as good as one can get in a new under $50 photo printer IMHO.

I think I might have to spend a little more to get something I will not be dissapointed with. The Epson Artisan 800 is $249 all in one ..but the Epson Artisan 50 is only $119. Maybe they have similar technology and quality.

I will definitely need PC free printing sine my PC is Windows 98SE.

I paid $149 for my Artisan 800 last week when it was on closeout at staples.com. epson.com has it for $199 with free shipping, possibly no sales tax depending on where you live.

The Artisan 50 does not have drivers for win98, you are right and need to look at standalone capable printers like the Artisan 800 or 700. Do you need to print 8x10? If you are only going to print 4x6 then you might want to consider a compact photo printer. Watch the clearance/refurbished sections at epson.com and canon.com website stores. Also bensbargains.net is a good place to find deals.

Compact 4x6 printer example:

You said $50 so I won't go off course like so many others here did.

Wal Mart has the Canon Pixma for $30. Considering that you use a Fuji P&S camera and you want to print at 8X10 sizes , I would expect you to be more than satisfied with it's capability. I have one and quite surprised at the quality and I am very satisfied with it. Sure, it uses ink carts fast but most all of em are guzzlers anyway.
Unless you have a heavy print load the ink costs should not be much of an issue.

Obviously a more costly printer with 6 colors+ will produce even better gradations but the Pixma 2600 does a commendable job. Read the on line reviews.

I'm stunned at the quality for $30 but Canon has found a way to do it for a paltry sum.

I have an Epson 3800 and an 1800 and a Workforce 30. The Workforce is adequate enough for photos if you're not picky. Don't buy a used printer. You'll probably spend more money on ink purges trying to get one going again.

A very good set of crayons and an easel,,,,, tongue in cheek of course
