Hello,

I want to buy a new camera and I have concluded to two dSLR cameras the Nikon D70 and the Canon 300D. Has anybody used both cameras so as to tell me which one has the better handling, feeling, inage quality etc. ?

Nikon D70.

Neither. In the digital world, both are 'old' technology. The D70 became the D70s, and the Canon has had a few upgrades. You said you were buying them new... they must really be inexpensive, as you can get much better technology than either of the two cameras for relatively little cost. Handling, I've always preferred Nikon's ergonomics over that of Canon, but it's an individual thing. More information from you would help.

Agree with other poster, both cameras, although they will work, are both "old technology", early DSLR generation cameras.

Why buy them now when there have been so many improvements since they first came out?

What type of subjects are you planning to photograph?

Cheers,

DL

but that was back in 2004.

I made (A4-size) printouts from some pictures in the reviews at steves-digicams.com and showed them to a number of people, asking them which they liked best.

People consistently chose the 300D pictures over the D70. So I got the 300D. My brother in law is still using it (after I got the 450D).

Slowly learning to use the 450D and and the Canon G6.
Public pictures at http://debra.zenfolio.com/ .

I also have an "ancient" Rebel (300D) that was purchased when it first came out.

It's still in use as a family camera and it still works well. It's nothing fancy, but it does the job, just as it did the job back then.

Just curious as to why you want to purchase a new D70 or 300D at this point in time?

Are you just learning photography or looking to get it for a student learning photography, etc? Or just a great deal on an old camera?

It's not that either is a bad choice, but there are a lot of other newer models that probably offer better high ISO performance, etc.

Good luck in your quest! : )

I'm a former D70 owner. Very good, solid camera, but it's outdated. Buy one of the latest models -- you can find a wide variety of prices and features.

Both the Canon 300D and the Nikon D70 were good cameras about six years ago and are still capable of taking nice pictures if they are in good working order. I still have a like new 300D. I hardly used it as i purchased a 20D shortly after getting the 300D. It's still a very nice camera and i wouldn't hesitate to use it at anytime. As a rule it pays to buy a newer model camera but if you find an exceptional older one at a bargain price i wouldn't pass it up. If you have a good lens you can capture some great pictures. Ansonn

it would still be in use today. That "old technology" was all I needed and still enough to bury any modern P&S, and even most entry DSLRs with their kit lens (300D + good glass = happy).

I'd worry more about the glass than the body.

Can you even find a NEW model six years later? I would assumed they're used. I'd be worried about high shutter counts on these models. Especially the 300D. It's shutter wasn't built as robust as it's latter siblings.
