I attended the ride4life charity event on 22nd August as a photographer for the Irish Cancer Society.

This was also the finish for the Tour of Ireland race, but I departed after this event (which finished before) due to lots of Paparazzi all over the place! Horrible lighting, very contrasty required extensive use of fill in flash

Chris Brewer for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, you can catch up with his blog @

Nice guy very friendly..

Another cyclist from Dublin if I remember

This is Philip Cassidy, whom I am infomed is/was one of the top non pro cyclists in Ireland, very down to earth guy.

Mental preparations!

Getting ready to go Stephen Roche present who is a former Tour de France winner

Roche leading them off

Part II to follow...

En route, having a chat on the mobile phone ;-)

Not really a race, more for fun and charity, he is enjoying himself

Main 85km group finish

Stephen Roche up close!

Irish Cancer Team, the guy in the grey is Enda Kenny, the leader of Fine Gael, the opposition party in Ireland (very friendly guy)

ICS Team

I guess this counts as a chaser ;-)

Thanks Barry- it's great to see that famous Stephen Roche smile - he must be the happiest bike racer ever! When did he win the tour - '87, I think. That was a great cycling era!

Nice shots :-) As "official" photographer, you're shooting for use in their promo pieces/press releases?

That chaser is a cutie. A perfect blend of Carrie Ann Moss and Courtney Cox ;-)

where were the Italians? all the participants in the Irish event seemed to be well nourished :)

--Come ON Barry--We need you to answer us! STOP going into the Sony Forum and arguing with those
Erm all shots A200, and no metal lenses were harmed or used during the shoot.

Yes I got paid for them, as I have done a few jobs for that charity. Yes they were released to press and publications, as the charity requests higher res versions.

I'll need to do a few more though if I am going to buy that Nikon ;-)

Barry if you still missing some $$, I'll send you some and then you can happily move to the D90.

--You Thinking Nikon Whilst I'm Thinking Canon. Oh My!
This is getting Scary!! LOL
Scary EVERYONE shoots Canon, which is boring! And I hate Canon ergonomics, they are anti Minolta to me! ;-)

I would think about all the makers, but if you like Canon..give it a bash lol

--I can't afford the Nikon D300/s Barry. If I could, I Would! Others don't interest me.

Just hit my 9999 + 0011 with my a700, Warranty ran out last week, and RUDDY thing is giveing me Focus problems. I HATE SONY!!
Mashing up Gears, now focus (AF) probs.
Someone Hates Me!!!!!!!!

Oh Well! There is always my Minolta 7000 and Film.
D300s is pricey, well to me anyway..one for the big cash windfall ;-)

Had some problems with the A200 AF, central point is far larger than it appears (not so km5d) Though aside from that, seems to be mostly good with the lenses I have used, and tried some golden oldie ones too (100-200mm f4.5, 28-85mm etc etc) Not good low light though..worst body I have for AF

I heard way to many AF complaints with some camera models, sounds like the A700 could use AF adjustments.

Strange thing is, my film 60 (really not a pricey body) can nail the 50mm f1.7 wide open in dim light time and time again..so why the A200 cannot, remains a mystery to me!

Get rid of that a200 then and get a D90 instead. You'll have no more issues.

I'll be sure to consult with you next time I go shopping for some food as well, I hope that you can instruct me on how I should go about my purchases ;-)

I know you dislike honest feedback from users, which of course helps companies to improve their products.

Don't get your hopes up with my changing mounts, I was around before Sony was, and I won't be dumping my film gear either. And guess what, you won't be telling me what to do either...get used to disappointments, I am going nowhere! lol
