The chinese poster is saying:
will be introduced to market in Sep.
USB 2.0
ISO 800 1/2000sec shutter
Long time MPEG HQX
1.4 sec startup time
6 selectable AF points.
added Simplified Chinese menu

The photo looks to be real, but of course the poster can be easily faked.
Personally I believe it to be true.
All the updates seems logical and 707 is old enough to need such an update.

Six selectable autofocus points? Does this just mean 6 more ways to get a misfocused picture?

We figured.
We wished! I doubted! I may be dancin' anyway!
ISO 800 1/2000sec shutter
My dance number just acquired a couple of new moves!!
Long time MPEG HQX
Nothing new there.
1.4 sec startup time
Sweet. Very Sweet. What is it now? Phil reports startup time from Off to Record as being 2.6 seconds, which he also calls "Very Fast". Well, the F707 was indeed fast as compared to its class of competitors. But we can certainly do with the faster startup.

Interestingly, Phil reports about the diminutive U10 that "Power on time is very quick with a small card (around 2 seconds), larger cards can take a couple of seconds longer. This means the camera is ready to shoot straight out of your pocket." So if the F717 is truly as fast as 1.4 seconds, the LOOK OUT!! I'm READY to shoot!!!
6 selectable AF points.
Hmm... yummy!!

I had a feeling you'd like this multi-point focus feature. We've been waiting for TWO YEARS (at least) for this one).

If true, and it is really user-controllable, unlike that of a camera like the P71, then folks stand to gain a lot here. Although if it doesn't work, it could mean that things will still be out of focus, only in different areas of the screen. hahahahahah..

How about a flash? Will Sony come out with a flash system that will work? I sold my 707 just for this reason. Did Sony also listen to everybody and put in a saturation control?

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. If the MS can't download that fast in my PCMCIA adapter, I don't see how it can do it that fast just by throwing in USB 2.0.

Now, if they really come out with those faster memory sticks at the same time that changes everything. This camera might not only download faster but the shot to shot time could be greatly reduced.

No one has commented on the 800ISO . This I find the most valuable addition(that is if the noise level is acceptable)

I also hear that this great poster picture was taken with the 717 so I am not getting my hopes up!

Must be the new autofocus.....

Yes. I certainly wasn't expecting it, but if true, USB 2.0 would indeed be nice. I'm all for faster downloads. Of course, your PC or notebook would need to have USB 2.0 capacity and implement it properly.

The 14-bit DXP is not new. We've had that for a while now across several different cameras.

Yeah, the adapter thing might be a problem. But for systems that can support USB 2.0 via direct connection... oh baby. I would guess that this implies that the USB cable that comes with the camera has been updated, too. Interesting all the little things that start coming into play here.
Now, if they really come out with those faster memory sticks at the
same time that changes everything. This camera might not only
download faster but the shot to shot time could be greatly reduced.
That's what I'm rooting for. Probably unlikely, but here's hoping! :-)

Actually, the initial post in the thread mentioned it. We're just taking it all in. :-)

What I find interesting about the ISO 800 is two things:

1. Is this the first time that Sony has gone with an ISO 800? Even the D-770 of old, the cult favorite of lots of pros and high-end amateurs, only went up to ISO 400. So, Sony is daring to be bolder here.

2. Usually when a company is moving up to the next level in sensitivity, it also means that they are more or less happier with the way they deal with noise. Now, that doesn't mean NECESSARILY that the camera is indeed less noisy. But the designers feel happier about something they've accomplished in this area.

3. Yes, one final thing. If the noise is indeed lower, then ASTROPHOTOGRAPHERS who are interested in the Cyber-shot have a lot to get all tingly about !!!

The users will have to determine whether the designers have gotten it right. :)

Lots of exciting stuff to come.

Oh my you're not kidding. I just now saw this and I can vouch for the fact that I am indeed all tingly...might have something to do with all the walking I had to do today to fix my car...but still! ;-) hahaha

This new autofocus must be purely a software feature, there's no additional mechanics or electronics involved, right?
