Does anyone have comparable phots from the FZ35 and FZ50? I have an oportunity to purchase a good FZ50, but I'm also looking at buying the FZ35. So I'm undecided.

Decide what your needs are.

At base ISO,both will give you excellent shots.

At higher ISO,the newer FZxx are better, refining more detail,(less NR smearing) and less chroma noise.

Main difference, would be manual, internal zooming lens...flash hot shoe(TTL-metering)...smaller,but adjustable LCD, better EVF.

these are main benefits,to the FZ50.

Lens isn't really faster,than FZ35,as when zoomed out to 400mm,it's f3.8 on FZ28/35.

In favor of FZ35

Better O.I.S. Better battery life
Faster autofocus,

Big,wide viewing LCD,brorder lens range, with 27mm at the wide end,and 486mm at the tele end. More reach,if using EZ Zoom...and better movie mode,HD video, and better audio (sample rate, and stereo mics)

Form factor...FZ35 is smaller, lighter, and more portable...but for big hands,i think the FZ50 will fare better, with deeper grip.

check out Danielson's FZ50 concert shots, they look great!

One last thing...you will always be able to get a FZ35,or newer model....but harder to say that, for the FZ50

Take a look at the specs., side by side.

The FZ50 sensor is quite a bit larger, which should mean better image quality.

FZ35/38: 1/2.33 " (6.13 x 4.60 mm, 0.28 cm²)

FZ50: 1/1.8 " (7.18 x 5.32 mm, 0.38 cm²)

and the lens is a bit faster at the long end on the FZ50

FZ35: F2.8 - F4.4
FZ50: F2.8 - F3.7

The FZ50 is heavier and has a smaller LCD. I imagine it's more expensive also. It all depends on how much you value image quality.

Not always...the FZ28 had the same resolution,as the FZ50,but less noise, and slightly less NR smearing, even though the CCD sensor is smaller. The Venus IV does a better job, than Venus III,too.

Again, not really,as the FZ35 lens zooms out past the FZ50...so at around 400mm ,the FZ35 shoots at f3.8....and the FZ50 is at f3.7 ,at 420mm

I'd gladly take that extra reach, with hardly any loss of light.

the big difference,is that the FZ50 lens,is a internal, manual zoom lens.

I bought the FZ35 to carry around instead of lugging the SLR everywhere.

Wicked inpressive right out of the box. Super sharp images. The HD Video is out of this world. Great deal for the $$$
