Beercan lens advice

Hello all,

I have found a beercan lens for sale which seems to be in good working order, apart from the following issue:

WHEN SHOOTING & TESTING ON MY SONY A700, I NOTICED THAT THE APERTURE WAS NOT MATCHING THE HISTOGRAM ON SOME OF THE FOCAL RANGES. AT WIDE OPEN 210mm, IT IS SPOT ON PERFECT & AT THE OTHER EXTREME IT READS 75mm INSTEAD OF 70mm. IF YOU BUY THIS LENS, I SUGGEST THAT YOU HAVE IT RECALIBRATED. CHECK THE PHOTOS BELOW TO SEE THE QUALITY OF THIS LENS EVEN WITH THE MINOR FLAW IN FOCUSING.

Is this going to be a programme for a novice user whilst shooting.

All advice greatly appreciated.

Shaun

It is not a problem itself because all Beercans do the same : show 75 instead of 70. This doesn't affect aparture and explosure in my case. But if you have another problem with aparture it is important you know.

...all beercans are in fact 75-210mm instead of 70-210mm lenses. I also thought it to be a problem so I compared the field of view @ 70mm with Sigma 24-70/2.8 and the 18-70 kit lens. The Sigma and the kit lens both had the same FOV, the beercan looked slightly "zoomed-in". It's not a fault, and if the glass is ok and the aperture blades are clean, go for it. I don't know what "the minor flaw in focusing" means though, maybe you should ask the seller for more information. There are quite a few beercans on the market so you can always seek for another, if in doubt ;)

Best regards,

I think the 'minor flaw in focusing' refers to the aforementioned histogram problem, so should be okay. I hear these lenses are pretty tough so should be okay.
