I need an extension for my remote release cord. I tried RadioShack, but all they offered were the jacks and a length of wire, and I'm not good at soldering tiny things. Does anyone know of a source for this?

Why don't you get a wireless one? I have an extra Remote Control F you can have if it will work for you. Let me know privately if you want it and what you address is and I will send it out.

Thanks for the generous offer, but I already have a wireless one. Unfortunately its signal angle of acceptance is narrow... and must be from the front. I need to point the camera at wild life, and operate the shutter hidden some 8 feet behind the camera. For that only a wired one will do.

Bounce the IR remote signal off of a peice of paper taped to the camera. I've done it with my Pentax DSLR's off of a pack of ciggaretts, my hand, or a peice of paper.

You can also get an RF remote. I bought one from ebay that worked at least 100 feet away.

FWIW: I also have modified an IR remote to work from any distance I want but it does take a bit of delicate soldering. I've posted what I did a few times in this forum but no one seems interested. This is a good method to be able to use the K-m/K2000 in bulb mode that requires more than 30 sec exposure.

Cheers.

That does indeed rule out the wireless.

Go to any store that sells iPods, MP3 players, stereo eqpt and look for a 6-foot headset extension cord. You'll also need mini-to-micro jack adapters as necessary for your setup so take your remote switch with you if you're not sure about sizes. Your camera uses a stereo-micro plug (2.5mm). Most audio eqpt uses stereo-mini plugs (3.5mm). Cord only is about $7 at Wallymart, Radio Shack, etc.

Thanks for the pointer. I went back to RadioShack and got an 6ft audio extension with an adaptor at both ends, $20 for all. Tests indicate success, and I'll have it ready for the afternoon visit of birds to my birdbath.

Tag I need one of those too.

Cheap Radio Remote...controls up to 100 meters (320 feet) away.

These appear to be getting good reviews.

While they are normally used as radio triggers for off camera flash ie. strobist style they can also be used as remote radio shutter triggers.

They're good for 100 metres and operate at 2.4ghz instead of 433mhz.

If you later decide to experiment with some off camera flash then your good to go with these as well.

I've just ordered a set comprising one transmitter and four receivers for $99.00.
The other option was Pocketwizards for big $$$$$!

I haven't been able to get a set of these to sync at anything above 1/125 with the Metz 48 AF-1, Pentax 360FGZ, or Promaster 7000m (nikon version). New batteries all around. I'm not the only one with this issue at Pentax Forums, no one has posted that they are able to sync at 1/180 yet.

The RF-602 does not keep the 360FGZ from powering off as the flash still knows it is off camera and does not go into sleep mode, it just directly powers off in three minutes. This is the reason I bought the set, so I'm considering this purchase a bust.

Thank you

What camera are you using? The K10/20 and K-7 all have IR remote receivers on both the front and rear of the camera body.

I'm still awaiting delivery.

I'm intending to use them with relatively cheap 'strobist' manual flashes ie Yongnuo 460's or Lumopro-120's.

The sync issue sounds like a potential bummer.
Yongnuo claim they sync up to 1/250th.

I currently have Cactus V2's which sync fine at 1/180th but are flakey in terms of trigger reliability over more than about 20 metres so I only use the V2's in a studio environment.

I bought the RF-602's for location work because all reports indicated they were reliable up to 100metres. I haven't heard about sync shutter speed issues until now.

If they turn out to be duds I'll just have to buy a set of 4 Pocketwizards ($1000 AUD!!) and accordingly adjust my location rates upwards to cover the cost.

I went to Radio Shack and got everything I needed for my wired remote. I bought two 20 foot cables and jacks and didn't have to do any soddering. Just take remote and camera with you and hopefully someone there can help you.

Just got mine today and you're correct.
Will not sync above 1/125th.

It won't matter for studio work but I already have a Cactus V2 which syncs fine at 1/180th.

If I had a camera that normally synced at 1/250th then I'd really be peeved.

I know they're cheap but they do claim a 1/250th sync speed. (Which the K-7 should have had IMO)

Anyway I've emailed the Ebay vendor with a please explain.

You can daisy chain the V2 units to extend the reach. It also helps just to get the second transmitter up high. Mount the daisy chain on a 10ft tall light stand to increase the range even if the daisy chained unit is right next to the camera.

There is a single report that the units sync at 1/180 with the K-7. It would be nice to see another K-7 owner, or better yet, multiples, posting a confirmation. The K20d and older only seem to work at 1/125 and below. I haven't seen any post for the k-M/2000 yet so it is still an unknown. Good luck with the vendor.

Thank you
