I've used Ofoto with great results over the last 2 years or so but am now looking for an alternative. Lately it seems that their service has gone way down hill. Overnight fedex orders placed before there cutoff don't seem to ship on time anymore and in fact I've been waiting for an order for 2 weeks now. Also, 16x20 and 20x30 prints used to be printed on thick high quality glossy paper and now come on thin matte. Here's a recount of my current fiasco if your interested.

2 weeks ago I ordered about 150 5"x7" prints and their Web site showed "received and in progress" for 2 days. I called to find out what was happening and they said the order was cancelled due to a processing error and they would resubmit the order. 2 days later they cancelled the order agian and said the images were corrupted during upload. Since they correctly generated thumbnails and lores previews I found that hard to believe. I re-uploaded the images and placed a new overnight order. 2 days later, again I received a message that the order was cancelled and it would be resubmitted. Another 2 days passed and I received a message saying that the order was yet again cancelled (now the 4th time) because the images are too big and can't be processed. The images are full size from the D60 (3072x2048). It seems hard to believe they can't RIP these especially since I've ordered before without a problem. I have since resized all images to their maximum recommended size (2140x1800) and resubmitted. It's been 2 days since I placed this order and their Web site still says "received and in progress". I wonder if I'll ever get them.

Their message was as follows:
Your order was cancelled because we encountered a processing problem
with your uploaded photos. These photos have extremely high resolutions
(2048x3072 pixels), which may be the cause of the problem.

We suggest that you try reducing the resolution of your images to our
recommended pixel dimensions. Please use Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro,
or similar editing software to change the size of you original images.

Recommended Pixel Dimensions:

4 x 6" print = 840 x 1260 pixels
5 x 7" print = 1050 x 1470 pixels
8 x 10" print = 1680 x 2100 pixels
16 x 20" print = 2140 x 1800 pixels
20 x 30" print = 2140 x 1800 pixels
Wallet-size print = 630 x 420 pixels

If Ofoto is saying they won't take images from 6MP cameras, that's a
pretty big deal. I suggest you demand to speak to a customer service
manager and get Ofoto's official position on this. Let them know you
participate in various message boards related to digital photography
so they know their answer counts.

Ofoto's been a good company up until now so I hope this works out for
the best.

I've been using http://www.fototime.com with very good results. Just got two 20x30 pictures from my D60 and they were great. It seems absurd to downsize images to print large pictures. Ofoto seem to be behind the curve here.

I uploaded about 150 full size shots taken with my D100/S2 Pro about a week ago and had a whole bunch of 5x7, 8x10 and 20x30 prints without any problem at all.

I've sent huge files to Ofoto to print w/o a problem, much larger than 2,000 x 3,000 and at highest JPEG.

Though lately I've been using Wal-Mart online and like them a whole lot better.

  • Canon EOS D-30 & PowerShot S100
  • Maybe one day I'll take a decent picture. In the meantime, I'll blame the equipment. :)

I just called to see what the status of the latest (now 5th attempt) was and the person I spoke with says it was tagged as "can't be fulfilled". He said that printing is 100% automated and there is only 1 person that can handle this problem now and she won't be in until 9AM PT tomorrow. Hard to believe they only have one person qualified to handle a problem order considering this is big company now owned by Kodak.

I too hope there is a reasonable explanation for this but I don't see it.

I too have been using Ofoto and have never had a problem with their fulfillment of D60 photos. However, I have been using Sam's Club recently to print photos. The quality is just as good, and since there is one close to my house I can have it the next day without a problem and if I talk to the techs they can normally get it back to me the same day if I need it.

( Also their prices are great!! $1.99 for an 8x10!! )

I used ofoto for some 20x30's from 6MegPixel JPG files from my D60

Prints look OK - but matte finished and color saturation could be improved.

I resent to http://www.jumbogiant.com (this time tiff files - which ofoto will not accept) and the result was significantly improved - better color saturation, better paper, oh and they didn't "crop" like ofoto (even though I checked "do not crop" part of the picture was cropped with ofoto)

Jumogiant has better quality for about the same price.

By the way, in both cases I received my prints within 48 hours of ordering - Jumbogiant was the next day!

Now after cancelling the order 5 times they said they will have to break it up into 4 orders and resubmit the order. They say the images are fine but the quantity of 5x7 prints is what's stopping their printer. They cliam it would have printed if the prints were 4x6 or if the order size was less than 50 prints. Sounds pretty lame to me. I'll have to wait and see if they ever actually show up now.
