Mine would be an 18mm-70mm EDIF Nikkor lens G type would be OK with a Auto/manual swithch on barrel.

What's yours?

Paul

10" Astro-Physics Maksutov-Cassegrain.
Focal lenth: 3708mm
f/14.6
1/10 wave optics

The anti-reflection coatings alone cost the mfg. $800.

Some dreams come true.

Hi,

I was going to design you one that required mounting on the back of a truck as a reply to your first post! :-)

Now, all I have to say is: Hope you have some wonderful things to shoot while you wait!

Stan :-)
how about a 5-500 F1.4 AFS VR that weighs > 1 pound

24-120 2.8 AFS, EDIF. No G type; I still like to use my F3s from time to time...

Hi,

Snuck in two. I have the AFS 80-200 f2.8D, but much of the time I run it all the way out at 200mm. It could stand to dispense with half of the elements, and lose some of its' weight.

I do need the AFS speed tracking the race cars, though, so the wonderful AF 180mm f2.8D won't quite do. I'll accept the 180's optical formula with an AFS motor, though. I won't quibble about 20mm..... :-)

Hi,

Heck, Nikon. Just AFS all of the primes and be done with it. Give the Canon guys one less thing to crow about, too. I really don't care about AFS in all the lower end zooms (and the high ends ones are already done up as AFS), but the primes could stand to be updated....

Stan

Last one - I promise! :-)

Hi,

The heck with the list. Just bring back all those super AI and AIS lenses that never made it to AF as 'P' lenses like they did with the 45mm f2.8P. I don't think they need to be AF or AFS, just the P chip will do.

I wonder if I can get the P chip added to my 58mm f1.2 NOCT? No, I'd never trust someone other than Nikon to mess with that one. I stand ready to buy one if Nikon brings forth a P version (well, up to a $2k price tag, that is).

Hi,

Yes, that would be an awesome combination. What I can't figure out is why Nikon hasn't figured this one out and built it long ago. But, then I said the same thing about the AF 300 f4, and then one day it showed up as AFS (which was great except for that half-brain-dead tripod collar design).

Maybe, just maybe, it'll show up in a display case at Photokina next month?

Now, there's a dream to be having right now!

If it does show up, I'll be calling my dealer to get him to place my order the first minute he can (just like I did with the AFS 300 f4)!

If Nikon does announce a 180-200mm f/2.8 AFS, I'm signing up for one right away. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll use the recent techniques to give us a minimum focusing distance around 3.75-4ft also.

I'd far rather have that than a heavy 70-200 AFS/VR...

Seriously, is it possible to develop a decent 18-70mm 2.8 -4.0 f stop lens? It sure would fill the void of 17-35, 70-210.
