hi,

im on holiday in Denmark right now and yesterday my DA just died :(

i was taking some picutures of Copenhangen, and suddenly the LCD went black, all the info on the screen is still there, such as the batteri life, shutter speed ... well just like i looks when the lense cap is still on. (yes, i have checked that :)

i can see the pictures i have taken, on the LCD and view finder, but else its just black, even in nightshot mode.

i have tried to reset the camera, and turn it on and off many times but still the LCD is black, the camera also thinks that it is taking pictures in the dark as it use the hologram AF emitter, when i try to take a picture, and all i get is a black picture.

have anyone had the same problem, and do you think its fixable or shall i start to save money up for a new one ?

i think that my DA have to go to the doctor when i get back to Paris, but that meens i will miss out on many great pictures here in DK the next couble of days, what a bummer :(

Oh, ymer, how terrible! Seems like several 707 owners have reported problems recently. (Hmmm... just in time for the 707 release :-)) Shutter said his is falling apart and is being repaired, and someone else wrote about the same kind of problem as you (screen went black). I can't seem to find the thread, unfortunately, but I seem to recall that it suggested that maybe he had switched the LCD off, but that doesn't sound like your problem.

Sorry I can't do any more than sympathize with you. But I hope you can work something out for your holiday!

ymer,

Serious bummer. I feel your pain, as mine is in the shop right now.

I'd give it lots of lovin', and let it sit for a day or so and try it again. That seems to work for computers.....

Hope all works out!

i had to send my in. i think it was a blown fuse/circuit etc...
see my reply in dee's thread.

btw, my cam was manufactured in sept 2001, so maybe the earlier cameras are more prone to this sort of failure?
This happened to Dee too. Here's the thread

I am hearing alot about there 707 breaking. I have one myself and I thought a camera that cost $1000 would last longer than a couple years before it needs work.

Dont worry Clea!

For every report of a camera breaking down, there is another hundred or so cameras that operate without fault for the full life. Treat it with respect, take care of it, and chances are all will be well :)

It is usually in the first 3 months when something will go wrong with it, after that it is usually wear and tear.

Having said that, we are dealing with precision electronics here, and sometimes, things just go bad. Dont worry about the what ifs, enjoy your camera :)

Regards

James.

Same thing happened to my P50. All of sudden, I couldn't take pictures or movie. I called Sony and they charge more than $150 for labor. All Sony digital cameras come with only 90 days labor warranty, instead of one year as most of other competitors. We have to pledge to Sony to change this ridiculous warranty.

From all reports and the comments of how extended warranties are a waste of money, I would have to say that i am looking good with the 5 year warranty I have as the type of things that are occuring to the 707 as it ages typifies just about every digital camera on the market today.
