at Henry's in Ontario. Gone up almost 20% from when I bought mine a couple of months ago. Doesn't seem that everyone agrees that 10MP is better than 14.7 MP does it?

Or at least that retailers expect that to be so...?

On the other hand, the price of the G11 at Henry's has just gone down from $599 to $569. I'm planning to trade in my G10, which I bought at Henry's last December. At that time, the price had just gone down to $499 from $549. (The salesman was surprised to see the changed price in their computer's price list.) I don't know what the price fluctuations are due to--maybe what other retailers are charging. I know that Aden is quoting $529 for the G11. I just hope that when the G11 is actually in stock the price will be on the low side.

And no, I don't think the price fluctuation has anything to do with pixel counts.

I think people are thinking the G11 just might not be worth buying, if they have a choice of buying the G10 while they are still in stock.

I had a feeling this was going to happen. :) That's why I went ahead and grabbed myself a G10 before the prices started getting too crazy!

Okay I'll play.

Why would someone think the G11 isn't worth buying?

For a long time the salesman have been saying more MP is better and now they have to say less is more, and customers will be confused initialy until G11 is proved in practise and written about and reviewed more widely.

I have just returned from a visit to Amsterdam, and in the evening the neon lights from clubs and signs reflecting on the canals presented a great photo op and the G11 would have been better than the G10 for some photos but the G10 also did very well at some low light shots.

Hi John,

judging by the average photographic knowledge of the salespeople in the large electronic stores which are probably today selling the most cameras, I would say that it is the salesperson who will be much more confused. Those of us in line for a G11 or S90 should be kind enough to explain to him or her that less MP can mean better images. And he (she) can continue the normal sales line about superiority of higher MP-counts to the buyers of the little 150 dollar P&S.

Cheers, Ralph
