1. As, Apple is heavily involved in the schools and higher education/research facilities/universities and colleges, Apple should be aware that paper textbooks and publications are on the way out for much of this market. Nothing in Apple's current inventory is ready for this change; and, of all companies, Apple should have foreseen this and should have been ready for it, and even better, should have ushered in this change themselves.
2. Therefore, the market is ready; but, a suitable technological device is not, as there are far too many restrictions/limitations and problems with use of the current generation/models of Sony/Amazon Readers. However, some universities intend to start using the Amazon Readers beginning this Fall, as there is no other suitable device, for them, at this time. The universities moving in this direction, say their goal is to eliminate the need for paper text books, entirely at their institutions.
3. I currently print out a lot of documents to simply read; and, would much prefer to not waste time, ink, paper, by being able to transfer them "directly" from my computer to a "Book Like", electronic device, such as an Apple Tablet Computer, should allow, if it's designed properly.

BRJR ....(LOL, some of us are quite satisfied as Hobbyists ..)
I've been waiting about 15 years for the tablet to come a reality.
The launch of the iPhone and similar touch screen devices was the big step that gave me hope.
I hope Apple does it, and I hope they don't mess it up (probably will though).
I just want an A4 sized, touch screen tablet computer, with a full OS, the thickness of an iPhone. Basically stretch an iphone in 2 directions, use that for more memory, battery, screen (of course), and maybe multiple CPUs to give it the grunt needed.
We've suffered through computers called tablets which weren't (modified laptops, or laptops with trick folding screens are not tablets!), it's time to get it right.
Give me the following.
A4 size screen, high res
6-8mm thick
8+ hrs battery life
around 40gig memory (solid state).
Full OS
The usual wifi/bluetooth/etc
A proper dock for charging and connecting to other items fast.
GPS (one of if not the most critical item for it to have for it to work at all)
Enough grunt under the screen to browse and have an app or 2 in the background working. Doesn't need to be a power house at all though.
Durable, better be able to be tossed around in a car, or around the house and take some abuse, get wet and so forth.
