ISO poll.

I know what a real sport needs...

with 18MP I got a plenty of room for optimising my skill (you know what I mean)

selling my 5D2 now....

The only time a smaller sensor with the same pixel count is superior to a larger sensor (aka higher pixel density) is when you are focal-length limited.

Although, I will shoot whatever iso is necessary to get the correct exposure or push the histogram to the right as much as possible without clipping (or sometimes clipping if the scene is too contrasty and I don't want flash).

However, I've noticed that with my method of processing, shooting over iso 1600 often results in crunchy, muddy color, noise ridden looking wildlife images. I don't know what it but I can't seem to make animals look good over iso 1600, sometimes I have problems getting them to look good around iso 1000. I have a few wildlife shots I'm proud of but they are few and far between, I'm very nervous shooting at any wildlife above iso 800.

As high as i need to go but i have no regrets using
1D Mark III - iso 3200 / 1Ds Mark III - iso 1600

I find that the files can take a lot of pounding in post processing and when i print them they still look great.

What is your "maximum comfortable" ISO, while shooting?

In other words, what is the maximum ISO level you use while shooting without any reservations about it.

I don't want the maximum ISO level you use, be it regularly or occasionally, based on absolute exposure conditions that may dictate it, in spite of any reservations.

I want the Maximum ISO that you dial in without even thinking about noise levels or post processing.

Please reply on the subject line with the ISO value and the camera used, without any further text, for simplicity sake.

Thanks!

100 if I can. I am very comfortable up to 400. OK at 800 if I have to. 1600 for events but I would like to be comfortable at 3200 at events. That would be the ticket.

I have made my decision. Don't confuse me with the facts.

What does this even mean? If 99% of my shooting is in EV1 conditions, I'd have more reservations about using ISO100 than ISO3200.
But not about using ISO200 for an EV2 one:

http://www.pbase.com/victorengel/image/67692835

Why?
That picture was shot with a 10D using a static subject.
Yes, I know...but you could have gone for f/5.6 at 1s, at ISO800 for the same EV and benefited from a larger DOF.

Of course, it could be the case that you wanted EXACTLY that aperture.

...or, god forbid the simplicity of the thought, you went for that particular ISO because you felt comfortable dialing it up as a limit on that venerable 10D.
