Daryl, congratulations! That has got to feel good. I'm sure it takes a lot of pressure off with the new baby and all. I'm really happy for you, and I knew it would work out. The only downside is that you're going to have to put the camera career on hold. It's going to put a crimp in those press passes. :-))

What's ADT and what does a retention manager do?....

I'm starting a new job the week after next also...

The company I worked for for 17 years (doing shipping and receiving) sold and closed in April 2001 and I picked up a new job right away and got layed off about 6 months later right after 9/11... very depressing...

I collected umemployment all last winter and finally got a job doing customer service for a mortage company and hated it...felt like a caged animal in a cube farm tethered to a phone and a computer so I quit after 3 weeks and picked up a temp job...

I kept looking for a permanent job with better pay and benefits and it payed off...I start Monday Sept 9th working inventory control for a health care company...

Feel like a kid going to a new school... ;> )

Will be working third shift, 10:30 PM -6:30 AM so I will have my mornings for photo shoots and editing, and the evenings I'll still be able to spend with my wife...probably sleep afternoons...

Best of luck on your new job and new baby when he/she arrives...

ADT is the world's largest home and commercial security company. While my background it in telecom, this will be a stable and refreshing change. My role as a retention manager is to hire, motivate, train and reward a sales team for retaining customers. When a business moves to another location that business leaves behind a full blown security system(assuming they were already a customer). Our goal is to go in and make sure that the new tenants realize how inexpensive it is to start service and to follow the old tenant to try to get them to continue service with us. Quite a bit more to it, but thats it in a nutshell....

The key for me and the main reason that I havent been employed in 9 months is that I have worked for over 10 years in sales and technical consulting and most recently was promoted into management. I wanted to continue my career path and not take one or two steps backwards. Luckily, the wait paid off......

Your days of uncertainty are OVER !! I am very happy for you, especially since I start to know what is was like.

We are being sold to another company (an American one, BTW !!) and our uncertainty just starts.
