Minolta EXIF info decoded! - Programmer wanted!

I understand that there is no way to tell if someone has used this knowledge, but IMHO, if they were to write a commercial application, they would reverse-ingeneer it on there own anyway...

And it was only a sugestion you know :-)
But correct in which sense? Legally?
I can assure you that this is 200% correct. No problem there.
For releasing it under the GPL, I mention it without thinking to much.
The GPL applies more to source code then to documents I think.
And as someone mentioned somewhere up the thread, I'm not sure either

that you can GPL this kind of informations as you are not the copyright holder. But, if you are one of the copyright holder of an application which uses those information, then this could be GPL'ed...

By the way, the GPL does not prevent you from selling your product, it only states that the source code must be distributed along with the application and/or any deritative work. So if the application ever come to life, you can still try to make a buck out of it...

Anyway, I don't want to become an oos advocate anyway hehe

So good luck with your projects, and if you ever need a piece of code in Java in your application, drop me a line or two!

Cheer!
Dan

P.S: To the others, maybe the informations contained in this header is not absolutly required to you, but more info is better then less, and the day I'll need it, I would be glad if I can actually have it!

I disagree with some posters here. I WANT to know the subject distance, and none of the EXIF readers do it.

I also feel that if someone wanted to do this, they would reverse engineer rather than pay.

Personally, I don't care about other cameras, just the D7 for now.

The programming is not terribly difficult, it's writing the user interface that is time consuming. I have software experience, but no time to write a user interface.

If I knew which part of the "Maker Data" delt with distance, I could use it.

I want to know the distance too even though I am also the same one saying that is not CRITICALLY important.

Yeah, I also tried to contact him to understand how he decoded the Minolta MakerNote and he never replied. Neither to my e-mails nor to my posts in his software's forums. :-(

I'm really glad you did decode those tags. And, not to degrade ExifRead in any way, it seems you did a better job in this aspect.

I'd like to thank you one more time for sharing this information with us.

Bruno Costa.
