I've just taken delivery of a new system - widescreen iMac with jaguar 10.2 - and an Epson 2450 scanner (still waiting on the 2100 printer!).

I had major problems trying to get the computer to see the scanner using both usb and firewire under 10.2 and classic os. The only way I was abe to get round this was to reboot under 9.2 and go from there, the scanner was then recognised and works perfectly. Hopefully some new drivers will emerge soon for OS 10.2 Hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem.

--My 1680 works fine with classic. Don't hold your breath for it to work in OS X. Epson has a real problem with software.

Epson has had some beta software on their web site for Mac OS X. They recently pulled the software and replaced it with a notice that they were going to post new ones shortly and to check back. The software that they pulled was the Epson Scan to File application and their TWAIN driver. Things are looking up on the Epson front. They have been slow in getting thier software working on Mac OS X, but from people who know, it looks like things are finally coming together.

Good luck on drivers.

I sent Epson money for OSX drivers back in April. Got a letter from them in May saying 90 days.
Still nothing.
I'm thinking of paying for Vuescan if it will work in 10.2

Wayne:

I am considering this scanner, however I have hesitated due to the lack of OSX support.

I understand that the "trial" drivers on the website above do not address the scan to file feature. I am looking to use the scanner with PS7.

If you would be so kind as to post your experience with this scanner, it would be appreciated. Also, if you scan some slides, let us know the quality of the scans.

Thanks,

Leo

I bought Vuescan some weeks ago and it works fine with my 1650 and 10.1.5.
Will know about 10.2 later this week.
Best, Geoff.

Hey Henry:

You are right, but they just posted their twain drivers for OS X 10.2 and they work (they are still calling them preview, and I have had them crash once) but, now that I have moved over totally to OSX, I don't have the hart to go back to classic for anything.

Go to
http://www.virtualtraveller.org/epson2450p4.htm

for a review of the 2450 and some slide samples. I use it mainly for prints with some 35mm slides. So far the quality has been excellent.

Leo:

I am using the 10.2 Epson trial twain drivers with a Perfection 1650 and Perfection 2450. No problems with either.

The 2450 Scanner is a work of art, BTW. There is no reason why this scanner shouldn't cost > $1000. It is the best bargan in scanning I have ever seen.
