Hope I'm not in trouble with you all for posting this but it came out better than I hoped.

This is an HDR from inside the Collings Foundation's B-17G "Nine-0-Nine" looking out through the bombardier's plexiglas nose. She visited northeast Ohio a couple weeks ago.

Note to CC: For $425 I could have actually gone up in her...I didn't do it but looking back on it I should have. The photos from that clear nose would have been spectacular. They usually tour the States each year and if they bring her around my way next season I WILL be on board!

Tom, good to have you posting here, regardless of camera.

Super.

We have the B17 Yankee Lady at the Yankee Air Force in Willow Run Michigan that also does rides.

Thanks for your comments of my DPOTD at Photovoice. :D

Yes, your POTD is just excellent. As I said, I like the tight composition. The "Lady" was at Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport last month but I didn't get there.

BTW, will you be attending the Cleveland Airshow in September?

Just a little too far for this old boy. :D Did a google on the Cleveland Air Show and a Harrier is going to be there. The web site is great and it will be awesome with all the various performances.

It was a five exposures bracketed. No tripod...I was sitting on my butt...not much room in these things.

The HDR was done in "Dynamic PHOTO HDR", which I'm finding is much more sophisticated and user friendly than PhotomatixPRO.

Yeas, and that $400 was for just a half hour circling the field!

Maybe other people are like me . . . a bit tired of HDR, especially those clotted skies that seem to go with the technique. But this shot is really impressive, and it suggests there are creative ways to use HDR that are very effective. That is a powerful image.

But for $425 dollars? That's steep. I'd probably do it if they let me shoot up a few belts through that machine gun!

I agree with Steve on both the photo and wanting to run a few belts through the guns.

:-) :-) LMAO!

I can envision somebody standing there with the ejected cartridges flying all over the plane!

This IMHO is the right place to use HDR...a very high contrast image..a dark interior with a very bright sky. Probably could have gotten a descent image using S&H but I planned this very shot with HDR in mind. If you check the link to my Flickr gallery, I also got a similar shot of this plane's flight deck using the same bracketed exposure/HDR technique.

That is a kind of shot we don't see much at all. Very well done. Sorry you could not go up - but then you could buy a new camera with that money.

While crawling around in this old bird I tried to imagine being a 20 or 21 year old crewmember at 30,000 feet...very cold, with flak bursting all around and enemy fighters boring in from all directions, with nothing but that thin aluminum skin between you and certain death. And it IS thin, but those planes could fly with an amazing amount of damage as many photos from the period can attest.

Congratulations Tom, this is a really good example of HDR photography as was your recently honoured photo from the Scott Kelby photowalk in Ohio.
I liked both shots immensely.
Are we going to see some more from you now you have posted this.
Cheers,
John

I don't do HDR exclusively, only when I think it fits the lighting situation and/or the subject matter. It's all a matter of taste, I guess.

I just had a chance to look through your gallery of mostly HDR images, and I wanted to tell you that I think you have several outstanding images there. HDR really works well with several of the images. I also spent a little more time with your OP photo. And after studying it a bit, I’m even more impressed this outstanding photo. Good going, indeed.

Sweet shot Tom. Great job with the HDR. It really enhances the image of this old Warbird "Nine O Nine". I've shot this B-17 a couple of times when it visited South Fl. Got to love the sound of the engines as it passes overhead. OB.
