no focus lock in sports mode

Hi, I recently got my d7i and love. One thing though, in sports mode I cannot get a focus lock, the fucusing just keeps going in and out and will not end when I half depress the shoot button. Is this normal or should I be doing something different? Thanks guys.

Cliff,
It's normal, in sports mode, the camera use continous AF
