Hi there, everyone. The FTF is my home away from home, but I am keenly interested in the E-620 and would really appreciate it if you would share your photos with me, as well as any likes and dislikes regarding this camera.

I'm an avid birder and do a lot of wildlife shoots; I also enjoy Infared photography and landscape photography, but I don't do a lot of portrait work. I'm merely an individual who is passionate about photography.

I plan to make a decision on a purchase within the week, and offer a sincere thank you to anyone who responds.

... the 70-300 f/4-5.6 (~$300) and 50-200 f/2.8-3.5 (~$750) are two of the best bird/wildlife lenses around for the price.

I've got the 70-300. Remember the 35mm equivalent focal length is the "real" focal length x2 on Four-Thirds, so this gives you quite a lot of reach indeed.

I've got a thread of my observations here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1022&message=32404667

(I use an older body, the E-510: anything it can do the 620 can do as well or better.)

The 70-300 isn't razor sharp at 300 (but it's pretty good), especially wide open. The 50-200, from what I hear, is very sharp -- even with a teleconverter in order to match the reach of the 70-300.

One of the best sources for Four-Thirds information is Andrzej Wrotniak's page, where he has lots of articles and reviews: you can read his thoughts on the 620 at http://wrotniak.net/photo/43/e620-rev.html .

I'm still writing up a more thorough review, but the key distinctions for me so far are:

I love:

The size, weight and handling of the camera. Very comfy to hold and use.

The lenses available, for their compactness, lightness, sharpness and lack of distortion natively.
The dynamic range of the camera.
The amount of control and ease of using that control with direct buttons.

I don't like:

The inability to take several shots in a row without me holding the shutter down.
The strong AA filter.
The delay IS adds to continuous shooting.
The LCD resolution is low and flickers slightly (low refresh rate I guess).
No eye sensor to turn off the LCD when you put your eye to the viewfinder.

Things I'm kind of mixed about:

High ISO is perfectly usable, very surprised. But low ISO could be better as well.
IS works, but only a little - not as effective as IS on compact cameras.

Too much sharpening for me at default settings.. but adjustable so not really a negative.

Two examples with the kit lens below:

As good as it gets from an in-camera JPEG standpoint. This is as much as I have shot JPEG capture in.....forever.

Here's an E620 folder I am adding that you can view at any size, from thumbnail to full size. I do not upload re-sized images to this website..

If I keep looking at your shots Greg I'm going to have to quit waiting for the E3 replacement and get a 620. Really nice. I found myself staring at #40 a lot, the building with the fire escape, pop art filter. I assume that was with the 9-18. Looks great.

Have you found that you've changed your processing much from the 520? Less, more etc.

Thanks, John! Yes, that image was shot with the 9-18.

Right now, I am doing way, way less post processing. Most of these were shot JPEG and the post processing consisted of a little straightening and/or cropping to take something out I didn't see around the edges of the frame. The ones I shot RAW I have used Studio, and that's been mainly to work out the in-camera sharpening/noise filter settings since you can apply the same in-camera settings to see how different perameters work with the same exact image.

On my E-510 and Zuiko 70-300mm lens, I'll get razor sharp photos all the time at 300mm FL, but not wide open. I'll have to shoot at F9.0 or higher. For me, this telephoto lens does well all the way to F22. At least one person said that the Zuiko 70-300mm lens does do better with the E-620 with the lower F-stops. I've been using this lens for about 21 months. Anyway that's been my experience. I heard that the Zuiko 50-200mm lens does take sharp pictures at the full focal length at any F-stop...but I don't have that lens to confirm.

I don't want to mislead anyone here; the Zuiko 70-300mm lens does OK at the lower F-stops...but for me...it's best at F9.0 or better.

experiences and knowledge with me.

You have shown me what this camera can do in capable hands, and it is much appreciated. It will help me make my decision, for certain. :-)
