I've done a search and read Phil's review of CF cards so I'm a bit confused as to which brand of CF card to get.

In Phil's review the Ridata and Kingston cards performed extremely well...except on the D30. I have a couple of 64mb Kingston cards and have been happy with them on my G1, which was recently sold. Will these brands perform similarly on the D60?

I have also read that some CF card brands don't work on the D60. In addition, I'd like to stay away from the Microdrive (prefer solid state). I'd like to get a reliable and fast 512 mb card as my D60 is on order and, with any luck, I'll have it soon.

Thanks,
Ken

There is a test somewhere... not sure where, sorry... that suggests that D30 CF results are not necessarily directly translatable to performance in a D60.

In any event, the best deal I've found is Transcend and "Ritek-made" cards at http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com , $218 and $210 respectively. I got very responsive service from them on a 512mb Transcend, which works fine.

I have a d30 and a d60 and shoot professional photojournalism for a living. I use these cameras on a 5-7 days a week basis. The kingston 256 cards and the delkin 256 cards work great. The sandisk 256 seems to write ok, but takes forever to erase. This bugs me, but hasnt stopped me from useing it. I dont recomend sandisk for d30/60

Seems like at this point, none of the faster brands are significantly faster than any of their competitors. I read one review that showed the Lexar card to be the fastest on the D60 (while it is slower on consumer digicams). I guess Kingston, Ritek/Ridata, Transcend, etc. are all good choices (Lexar is still more expensive though).

Much appreciated.

Ken....where is that review on the Lexar card? I wonder which one it was....they seem to vary alot. I thought Lexar was on the top of the heap for lying about performance.

Any more recommends out there?......Phil liked the Pretec 640mb card for the d30...but I can't find it anywhere. Also, so people find that type 2 is better for the d60 as Phil found that it was for the d30?

Thanks

There is (was?) a rebate on the 256MB and 512MB Cards - the 512s were $150 after a $50 rebate and free shipping. There are also $5 off $35 coupon codes that might work in addition (see below). Click through http://www.ebates.com to get an additional 2% off - you can tell them that bryan @ carnathan.com sent you :) It is the best deal I know of right now.

Thanks Bryan....

The viking cards in Phil's d30 comparison were very low performers though...substantially less than the microdrive.....do you know that they perform better in the d60?

thanks

I generally only use One Shot mode on my D60 and my RiData 512mb card (supposed to be fast and probably is) - and I never fill the buffer. I have a 256mb Viking I am using as a backup - but again, I'm not sure I personally could tell if the card was fast or not. It lets me take pictures as fast as I personally want to.

If the card performs slower than the 1gb microdrive, as many in the Phil review on the d30 did, then why not go for the 1gb micro at about $200 now...
