Hi all

I have been told that the G10 was subject to a recall because of picture quality issues, Is there anyway of knowing if this is factual and / or what serial numbers might be involved and in what sequence??

Thanks
Tom

Chances are if your camera had a serial number that was involved in that recall and you sent in your information for a warranty then Canon would have sent you either mail, an e-mail, or contacted you in some way to let you know that your camera had been part of the affected series. Hope this helps.

I just bought a new G10, and it is listed in the serial number range that is effected ( 50* ). Anyone know how long it takes for Canon to make the repair? I'd return it for a different one if I knew it wouldn't be one with the issue, but now I am at risk of either having pictures from my honeymoon have faults or not getting the camera back in time.

Nice move Canon, way to set the bar for quality control.

If the photos look fine; enjoy your honeymoon and worry about the camera later.

Be careful when reading the serial number. Last night I read this thread and went home to check my G10 to see if it was one with the problem. For about 2 hours I thought mine was affected and I even called Canon to see about sending it in.

I turned out that I had misread the serial number, mine has "50" as the third and fourth digit, not the fourth and fifth, (the numbers that Canon calls the defective models).

Mine might be the only one like this, but I figured that others might be misreading their serial numbers as well.

Ok, so I read it again...and maybe I am safe. Mine is 872150* so I guess I am safe, since it is the "4th and 5th" digits that matter.

From Canon it is 50 , or 12350* , or x x x 5 0, or however it is to make it easier to read than a faint font " 50 " on Canon's site.

Well, at least I am safe on this one. My statement stands though, rushed firmware updates for new camera models and other issues with new models clearly is reflecting Canon making compromises between QA and feature development, but they will be damned if they do damned if they don't I guess.

I dropped mine off at the Canon service center in Chicago at around 8:45AM and it was finished at around 2 the same day.

They offer same day service at least at their Chicago location.
