I recently watched Canons' video of the 5D mk2 controlling the 580EX2. Using a 580EX on my 5Dmk2, I am not able to adjust the first three Flash Function Settings ie Flash mode, Shutter sync, and FEB. Am I not setting the flash mounted controls properly to allow the camera to adjust these settings? Is this just a limit of the 580EX V 580EX2? Thanks for any suggestions

You can do everything, just have to use the controls on the flash with the 580ex
It's quicker than mucking about in the camera menu anyway.

No, you just can't. The 580EX only supports control from the camera for basic settings.

Yes - you need to set these functions on the flash unit, not on the camera.
Thanks for any suggestions
You can complain to Canon that the580EX doesn't foresee all of the flash functions that will be set in future cameras and enable compatibility with them. But remember, if the 580EX could do that then it would never have been released as a product - Canon engineers would be much more gainfully employed using it to play the stock market, the horses or the dogs. ;-)

Thanks for the input, I will press ahead with a 580 and 420 combo. Will post if I get a keeper
