Ep1,G1, GH1, GF1... enough with the toys !! when do we get a real camera ?

Hi Harold,
Please show me where you see in my thread that I wrote that the camera was a toy
I thought that was what the thread was about. Maybe I misunderstood.
because it is not in stock. this is getting ridiculous , honestly , being answered on what I wrote but on what you thought i wrote
There was another thread where I thought someone pointed out the G1 comes in black but you said something about it not being in stock so it didn't count.

Regardless, I think we're all glad that black exists. I'm a Cal (Berkeley) fan, so no red (Stanfurd) for me. ;-)
I am not disputing the fact that from a sales point of view , it is wiser to address that market segment first. but there is obviously a big market for Mlenses owners who :
Funny. You just answered your own post yet you choose to ignore your own logic.
No , again READ My post
Yikes, which one? My point was its coming, maybe even a usable one for you. :-)
Because as I said before , there are many cases where an EVF sucks or is a pain to use. as for me , I don't need even the EVF and could do with optional external OVF but this of course does not work for the zoom crowd
To each his own. Given the size and clarity I think it sucks in different ways. OVF's that aren't TTL has its own sets of issues when shooting in more challenging situations.

It would be nice for them to get to the point where the EVF can flicker when shooting continuous. I think that's just a matter of time.
Funny thing is that it seems as though they've worked you up into a frenzy thinking about what could be. I think this is exactly what they want and will be addressing some of those needs in the future.
let's hope so
My problem is, I can always think of another "if only they could just add this one litle thing ... " ;-)
After 5+ years, 4 bodies and 9 lenses I'm still waiting for the perfect FT camera / lens combo. Back in 10/03 if I ignored the E-1 because it was only 5 MP and ony had 3 AF points and the LCD was too small and had bad high ISO and etc and etc, I would have missed out on a lot of fun photo taking. I don't know what your situation is maybe the current system issues are intractable, but be patient I think the camera of your dreams is coming (so at least I tell myself).
I am not looking for the perfect camera , just one that can be used. there are many reviewers which are saying the same thing
New technology has tons of tradeoffs. I find most reviews to generally be extremely positive.

I hope that when the GF1 comes out, it surprises you when you try it out, even though it may not be what you want, on paper.

I think it's relevant. There are a lot of formats out there; photography has never been a richer medium. In fact if anything it's oversaturated! Honestly, haven't you got better things to do than complain about the existence of a new and promising miniature format like m43?

We have cameras from every sensor size from pinky toenail sized through to 20x24" film and yet people pick on a single body and design in these forums and complain about how its not good enough... man.

There are a billion options out there! If m43 ain't doing it for you, go with a different one.
Forget all the micro formats including 35mm and digital medium format.

What Harold66 needs is a Lotus 20x24 - assuming he can figure out how to operate it with all of his feature demands. This baby is bare essentials; 100% tool :)
Ah sarcasm , always a popular reflex . and much easier than trying to stay on point

Exactly. All of a sudden we've got a new choice; a really small camera with almost the profile of a compact but the capabilities of a DSLR... and yet there's always someone around to complain about it because it's just not good enough.

It's just ridiculous ;)

Maybe this guy works for Canon. I'm sure marketing people do contribute to these forums (they're a major decision-making medium for a lot of people).
We've never had it so good... this whole thread baffles me - the G1/GH1/E-P1 are all capable of capturing superb photographs in the right hands.

How can such capable photographic tools be considered toys on the basis of looks?

Kind Regards

The PEN series sure wasn't a toy. The actual E-P1 is a much more refined tool than the PEN F Eugene Smith used....
Really ? the EP1 has not much common with the pen ... and also it needs to be said that a camera without a lens is useless and there is NOT ONE real high quality single focal lens available so far

has a photographic tool its way more advanced than anything in the market for the same price and IQ. Maybe you need a more conventional "pro look" camera, but not all of us need it.

Hey like I said, I understand why Olympus choose to please the "-P&S-sunday user-want video in my camera" crowd.

I am just saying that it is kind of dumb now with following cameras not to tap on another potential market

The Micro 4/3's isn't the sucessor of 4/3's, if you need a pro or semi-pro camera you should buy a E30 or a E3.
I have 2 E3 thank you but I can still use a leica M size system if there is one
Then use them and be happy!
The Build up at the start is for new bodies, since the target is the consumer amateur/advanced photographer, there are at least 5 lens m4/3 and 30+ 4/3's, 2 zooms and 2 primes are coming so whats the fuzz?

Oh come on , most of these 4/3 lenses are IN PRACTICE UNUSABLE on the ep-1 either because of their size and weight or because they won't focus

. Like you said, cameras are just tools, start enjoying them as so.
Yes , except the GH1 and EP1are merely tools and mostly toys

No, my friend, you can't feel it like using your old OM (silver too). Your new silver beauty does not have VF so you can't do it cheek-to-cheek...

it doens't pretend... it is. Not the most pratical, but I carry mine in a classic harrington fred perry jacket all the time. Be sure and just watch the jacket I have, its really small.

Some people just are like that. A camera is launch, its great for some and bad for others, for me the little E-P1 is a great tool, with great silver looks and a very serious camera. I use it for night street shooting and plain street shooting. And I feel like I'm using my old OM 1, silver too. The lenses will come in time and according to the needs of M 4/3's users, right now we have 7mm (14mm) to 200mm (400mm) in 6 lenses not a bad way to start a new system. Regarding the quality of it, it reflects the main target of m4/3s. the HG lenses will come after the main customers are pleased, right now video and amateur customers are a priority. You are not forced to buy into this system, so if its not for you dont be irrational about it.

I've found people don't expect the GH1 to be shooting video at all, they're puzzled why I'm taking so long to get a shot!

Oddly enough I took the GH1 for its first proper outing a wildlife park here to see some tiger cubs, with many people packed in I couldn't get a clear shot so I held the GH1 out the side window at arm's length and framed the shot using the movable LCD. I then hit the video record button and took some footage of the new tiger cubs fighting over their food, people were actually watching what was happening on the high res GH1 LCD as you could see the action far clearer on it rather than squinting in the distance to the see the cubs.

I wouldn't have been able to hold the E-3 out to the side one handed and certainly wouldn't have been recording video.
