I know those lens prices always sober me up. But then, like Eric, I start thinkin about the 1.6x lens multiplier of the D60 (gawd, I'm droolin on my keyboard, again). It's my fantasy DC too. Kinda like the Corvette of DC's.

Now, my Ferrari of the Digital world would be the Mamiya 645AFD with the Kodax 16mp digital back (cost's about as much as a Ferrai too...lol, OK maybe 10% of the cost ;-)

Then I wake up and realize, not only don't I have the $ for these cameras, I don't have the skill they require and deserve either...LOL

Heh heh...

I can afford the camera body, but I guess that doesn't do me any good without lenses huh? THe D60 is just calling my name though. I would sell the 707, the laptop, etc to have a camera like that for my trip to Africa next summer. I am really disappointed in the 707 in one area only, and that is zoom. I know, I know, it has 5x optical. Well thats great but when you turn the camer on, its starts you at full wide. You use half or more of that xoom, just to get the picture to appear as it does to the naked eye. I love the fact that with the SLR, what you see is what you get, and any zoom funtion only improves it. Sure you don't get wide angle, but you can buy a wide angle lens. for shooting lions, giraffes, and rhino's I would preferr to not have the wide angle in exchange for a SLR setup.

Anyway, I love my 707 and I'm sure it will do fine in Africa.

Just thought I'd share my addiction.....now to two forums. =)

Correct in saying that 50mm is as the eye sees things, but that is true of all cameras including a D60....still an add on lens would be nice...........hmmmm................the recomendation regarding the bucket of cold water seems a little inapropriate as you will be in the bathroom anyway a head in the toilet bowl sounds better and a good courtesy flush as well
God ! my sense of humour is warped!.

You only live once ,and always suck the lemon.

have a nice day and don't loose your head, it will show your lack of maturity and your age.

Here is how I calculate the actual zoom magnification from normal as the eyes see it. The angle of view of the average persons eyes is equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera. That is why the 50mm lens is considered to be the prime lens. The focal length of digital camera lenses is expressed as a 35mm film camera equivalent. The Sony F707 is 38mm to 190mm and has 5x zoom from the wide angle end. From 50mm to 190mm is a magnification of 3.8 times (190 divided by 50). The other 1.3 times is at the wide angle end.

Seriously though - you will at least have a teleconverter in time for your 2003 trip, won't you?

You definitely want as much glass up-front as possible for that kind of opportunity.

hehehe, I don't think you could go wrong with a D60. If I were to get a DSLR right now that would be the one I went for. Now as far as taming two forums, you would have to have two big monitors and learn to navigate with your feet and type with your hands, or is the navigate with the hands and type with the feet?!?! Oh well, I am sure you will figure it out hahaha

Shay!! Its good to hear from you. You've been quiet here lately. Seems like a lot of the people who used to post often when I first joined are gone now. A don't recognize 75% of the names on the forum anymore.

I have been meaning to ask you.... Several months ago we were all discussing what happens when you image counter is all 9's and if it rolls back to 0001. You had said you had said you were starting a project taking tourist type pictures of Seattle and the area (I presume to do a book or something similar) that would push you over the "limit". Did you ever get to work on that? Hows it going? Any samples?

Eric =)

I can't believe a seemingly intelligent individual, like yourself, gave up his place in the D60 queue at ritz and adorama, relying on a Dell promised ship date. You could have thrown a dart at a calendar and come up with a more accurate date. Dell is notorious for stringing folks along. Some in here have been waiting 3 months for a flash, from Dell. They did the same thing with the S9000 printer. I hope they come through for you.

Good luck,
Steve

Steve

Thanks for your concern. While I am waiting, I will comtine to rent D1's, 1D's or borrow my buddies D30 for my various paid gigs (mostly performace review for rock mags). To be honest, I feel like if Dell comes through by my birthday on the 19th - I will be perfectly happy.

Just to keep things fresh:

I did consider getting the 707 for a time because it can get the job done when publishing at 300dpi in 1/4 and even 1/2 page layouts. Plus would have been a fantastic match for my Vaio laptop and PC5 mini DVcam with the Memory Stick and all.

IN ALL HONESTY - one of the several reasons I didn't get it was because photographers shooting rock shows and celebs (or really most anything) with non SLR cameras are not taken seriously. And even though I am being published in big time music mags I am fairly new at this game and I believe the saying to be true: Act as if.

Meanwhile I continue to wait - happily.

BTW, The reason I came to the Sony forum INFP was to peep peoples reaction to the newly reviewd CP5700, another point and shoot I was considering untill I decided to go SLR.

Thanks again.
Good luck,
Steve
