EP-1 review: Kit lens vs. Leica/Zeiss/Voigtländer

Hi Bruno as i replied to Richard, i just think that it sound not so good to me that a 11x zoom beat a 3x zoom who is not a plastic 18-55mm canon kit lens but a 500 euro lens !! wow if i spend 500 euro i expect that at least is not worse then a 11x zoom ! question of optics, olympus dont give for free this lens...
What I tried to emphasize is that this 11x zoom is 1200€ worth of optics and many people bought it because it was just that good. To justify twice the price being 2/3 stops slower it has to be some exceptional lens, not just an "11x zoom" , and if you check around what the owners have to comment, you'll see it's really exceptional.

Quality, DOF control and speed are the best reasons for using fast, manual focus primes. Image quality itself at medium apertures won't be a lot different. Personally I'm not a big fan of the 100% crop as a way to judge image quality.

Agree with you in that the inner 'cone' will be of better quality and what I was trying to get at is that you may or may not get a better result with your old lens depending on a lot of factors.

The biggest negative to using old 35mm lenses for me, and it is obvious, is that there are very few choices for wide angle. And on that note, if I used a fisheye lens (to try and get a wide angle) I would emagine that the inteded distortion would be cosiderably less and more like bad barrel distortion.

Cheers
