Hi there

I once heard rumor that you could get digital conversion kits for 35mm cameras. I have several Canon A1 and AL1's. I would like to convert one of these to digital (if possible). But I cannot find any information on the web about it. Can anyone verify if these kits exist and where to look for them?

Thank you

there is no such thing, unfortunately - you could buy a digital back, which is a systmen that you attach to the camera to replace the film roll - it is extremely expensive, and you would probably be better off just buying a new digital SLR. from what you're saying you don't seem really a pro'

Thanks for the information.

I am not a pro (Looong way from it). I just wanted to be able to use my existing lenses etc. The Digital SLRs that I have seen so far look nice but at arround £4500 are way out of my price league.

Something wrong with your prices:
Fuji S2 £1700
Nikon D100 £1800
Canon D60 £2000

Bodies only, prices from Jessops. You can probably find them cheaper.

Ok thanks. Still really out of my price range. I think Ill stick to chemical until the prices come down a lot more! For £1700 I can get a lot of 35mm films developed.

It has long puzzled me that manufacturers can sell a film SLR for a few hundred dollars OR a digital P&S for a similar price, yet a digital SLR is an order of magnitude more expensive. I realize that economies of scale are involved but if they could 'mass" market 35mm SLRs, isn't there a consumer market for a reasonably priced digital SLR?

It is kinda frustating. I have an EOS with the manual / AF EF lenses and they only fit the high end digitals like the d60.

Hi Padeye

I remember the innitial announcement. It sounded SOOOooo GOOD! I remember thinking that if I had money I'd invest in their stock and make a fortune! Turned out to be a bomb. I would think that if one of the big companies were interested in such a scheme they could have brought in to frutition. But that's just ignorant specualtion on my part.

As far as the earlier post from Brutal - The companies are making a killing on DSLR's. The proof being that you can buy a gray market D1x for $2200. Now I paid $4850 for mine. I would have bought gray market but Nikon will not honor the product. Not only will they not honor the guarentee, they wont even let you pay them to fix the camara!

There is a conversion from a company called Siliconfilm.
http://www.siliconfilm.com/ Not very cost effective though. 1.3
megapixel and a 2.8 lens conversion factor and only enough memory
for 24 shots for around $800. It only works on a few specific
modern autofocus bodies.
