Hi everyone

I have been reading this forum since I decided to buy a digital camera and decided to buy dimage 7i. it was a month ago and now, 2500 photos and a vacation trip to france after, i can tell you my experience:
  • focus: had some problems early using AF. after finding flex focus, it's dificult not to get a clear and sharp image.
  • evf: found it very 'ugly' at the beggining... now i'm more than used to it
  • noise: when i returned from my trip and regarding the concern of everyone about noise, i have chosen a few pictures (with lots of sky, night stills and portrait) and decided to go to a photo lab to print them in 15cm by 20cm, without changing them with neat image or photoshop filters and try out to see if I would need that. conclusion: absolutely perfect... a friend of mine who took a nikon with film on the trip was devastated by the quality of the photos.
anyway, if you want to and explain me how, I can post some examples of my trip. just as conclusion i would like to say it was my best buy concerning photography, and I do not hesitate anymore on leaving my good old Leica R4 at home on any trip.

If only I could take photos this good. Anyone thinking of buying a D7i should take a look at your photos and they will be sold!

Your experiences with the lack of noticable noise on pictures straight out of the camera mirror my experience and highlight how much the noise issue with the D7i is overblown.

What part of France were these photos taken? Seems like a beautiful place.

thanks for the compliment, Steve. They were taken in the northeast of france, in Brittany... a very beautiful region.

I thought I recognized it - I have been to a small town there, I believe the name is "Brest". Unfortunately I was there for business and had no time to play tourist. It is quite a beautiful area - I love the countryside and the architecture.

Thanks again for sharing the photos. I do hope to get back there someday.

Beautiful photos!

I see you use center weighted metering and program 2 a lot. Has it been your experience that these two settings give you optimum results (for subject matter such as this)?

Great job!

thanks Craig. Yes indeed, when I wanted to get something balanced and natural it was almost point&click as the camera always reads very well the light of the picture. spot or shutter and f-stop priority was only used when i really wanted to "cheat" on the camera :)

found the way to make a web gallery... here are some of my pics:

hope you like it

--IMHO your pictures are fantastic, absolutely stunning, according to another colleague on this thread, " not the average tourist photos." I do hope someday to be able to 'see' the picture and you have also aptly demonstrated that I did not make a mistake in deciding to change my D7 for a D7i a little later this year, circumstances permitting. I recognised Mont St.Michel, excellent. All are ! Did visit Portugal last year but it was too fast, coach tour ! Was using 35mm then. Best of luck.

hi ray

program 2 is just the automatic mode 'P'. I guess 2 is a sequential number the camera has to identify what we use... program 2, aperture priority 2, shutter priority 4, manual mode 5, etc...

bye

These are some really nice photographs. I wish there were more posting like this in this forum. I'll only echo your experience with noise. it is for the most part IMO just that, a bunch of noise. Again very nice shots!

Really enjoyed your pics. I've been shooting mainly in manual or flex. Must try the centre wieghted.
Some lovely compositions there.
