I placed my order, however, the status now shows
"Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.
Delayed 8/27/2002"
I called Dell and they told me that it must have been a lot of customers placed their orders in the short time.
Looks like their system is crappy. Imagine the system like theirs at Ebay - it might happen then that the same auction is won by many people at once.
I wonder if they charged my card already...

I ordered mine by phone several hours ago, the young lady said it was in stock, now online status say the same thing, "currently not available"

Don't bother calling to find out the new ship date. 95% of the CSRs don't care and the rest won't be able to find out due to their crappy system.

I saw the post on Ron G's site and ordered via phone, then thought I'd spread
the info here. I got my confirmation and a ship by date of the 27th
BUT the CSR said (who knows if true) that it would ship sooner.
Total cost delivered next day air $1979.96

I've personally ordered an LCD monitor and PDA from DELL, both were received exactly when expected and returning the PDA was a no-hassle experience. In both cases, they were offering 20% off deals which was what prompted me to order from them.

The ship date online is totally inaccurate . There's a tiny tiny chance that they'll ship yours tomorrow.

So all I read here is that the online info is stale as day old bread.
Why would I go to site to learn useless info?
I called and placed the order while the item was in stock
and was told that it would ship by the 27th.
I did ask for an email with a tracking #
and that's enough for me....

The CSR told me it'd ship tomorrow. The confirmation said it'd ship by the 27th. The online status said it'd ship by the 27th. But now it's saying delayed. Just curious how bad their system really is.

I 'chased' about half a dozen 'cameras in stock' posts for a month, and finally bought mine from Dumoulin in Canada last week. It seems it is really hit or miss. I would have missed this one, I was away from internet access for most of the day (I did pay a little more than the Dell folks were charging, Oh well). Life goes on...

Probably because they have a number of cameras and b numbers of orders, where b > a.Hmmm, appears Dell has removed this item from the web site.
The question is b = a + n, what is n.
(number of orders) = (numbers of cameras) + (number on waiting list)

I hate to sound pessimistic, but don't get too excited. Dell is good building and delivering computers. They are horrible with accessories. I went though exactly same experience a year ago when they had a great deal on a hot consumer digital camera. I got a lead right here on the forums and called in. The sales person was great placing the order, giving me 10% discount and all... I called to cancel after waiting for 3 months watching the shipping date go back over and over again. They shipped one month later.

This is after the CSR assured me that it'd ship out tomorrow. My online status initially showed "ship by 27th." Can you believe a Fortune 500 company having an ordering system like this? I'm not that p*ssed though because this is totally what I had expected and warned people about in the posts above.
Well, their system is crazy enough that there's a non-zero chance that they'll ship mine tomorrow.
I ordered at around 9:30AM PST, btw.
