As they say "down under", I had a walkabout and managed to grab a few shots around downtown Phoenix. Trying to get back into the swing of things so don't be too tough on me over these early attempts :)

Loved the angles coupled w/great sky on this one so I tipped it a bit to make it flow a little better.

Not sure what I wanted to get with this one with foreground lamp placement (lined up with bldg. reflection) and my narrow dof. I liked this one best out of several I tried here.

I really like this one because I fell in love with all the angularity going on here. Weird, I know, but you have to understand I was shooting in 115F degree heat!

Simply put, "The old meets the new" on this one, or maybe the other way 'round.

Regards, Jim

OK, perhaps cool is the wrong word, but good to see you back! And the angles look very cool, even if they were anything but. So are you back Z-zipping around too?

As one from Downunder, I know that walkabouts can last for weeks or months. I don't suggest you stay out in the heat that long... Enjoy!

Who am I kidding? 115 degrees is a pizza oven. I've been in your neck of the woods when it has been that hot and it is no fun. I'm surprised you could hold on to the camera in that heat. These are interesting, colorful shots, Jim. I like the angles and POV. Which camera are you using now? This can't be the Mavica, can it? :D

The first one works.

That second one has an appealing surrealistic look.

I get the third one, but it's not hot enough here for me to fully embrace it. ;-)

I like the last one.

115 degrees is enough to call hot. Memories from my youth in Scottsdale: There was nothing like getting into a car with Black vinyl seats that had been out in full sun 115 degree weather when wearing shorts. Takes my breath away thinking about it. Yow!

One small step for mankind and one hugh step for Jim.....first you are hiding under the bed for it seemed like months and now you are out in our 115 degree weather... good for you !!!

I was trying to recognize the area you were in and I gotta guess by the Mercado around 7th street and Van Buren ?????
Nice series.

Great shots. I couldn't help but think that there were three poor suckers out in that terrible heat. The two window washers and you. I understand them. It's their job. But you? I am a bit worried I'm afraid. ;-)

I have a question for you if you can answer it or not I really don't know. Why such clear and sharp photo's? Where are the heat waves in that heat?
Thanks Jim.-

Darwin,

Easy, these were shot w/7D. Remember that camera line... Have you so quickly forgotten that the 5D/7D incorporate an SHW filtering array? That's Switchable Heat Wave filtration for those challenged in filterese lingo. Yup, bet your fancy-schmantsy Sony thingys don't have no HW filtering array in 'em, huh, do they, huh, huh?
Looky here and weep!

And it's even red to denote it is the "hot" button!

Of course I need to cut you some slack as these "special" cameras were only available in Arizona and Saudi Arabia... :> )
Thanks Jim.-

Hey, welcome back, Jim! Glad to see you're out and about, clicking away.

I really like the lines/colors in the third pic. And I know what you were trying to do with the second shot - align the lamp with the reflection for a "torch of the Statue of Liberty" impression. The window washers are like little sparks.

Nice set, Jim - did you get my email a few months ago?

Thank you for your kind words, Carol.

As to your email of a few months back, no, I don't recall having seen it. But, on the other hand, a few months back I'm not sure I would have seen my own reflection in the mirror! Things were not coming along as well as expected, contrary to how well things are going today.
I like your description of the window washer, really, I do!
Regards, Jim

Yeah, I have to use a lot of humor with Darwin. You know how he flies off the handle at the least provocation... At least I think that was Darwin that always was loosing his cool here. I've been gone for quite awhile and my memory isn't what it used to be and I've been wrong before...

So I try to humor the guys that don't know how to spell their own name and hopefully, Darwin (or Darwun) won't blow up at me for ribbing him about his choice of camera. He's soooo touchy tho...
Regards, Jim :> )

WOW. Look at all those KNOBS! I think I'm gonna have to break my ol' 7D out for a test run this weekend! Welcome back Jim. You've been missed. Nice shots of PHX. Wish I was there!

Jim.

I just love seeing vintage antiques that have been taken care of so well. Tell me. Does it still run?

You must have a rare one. Because I have never seen a miniature "Gum Drop" on an old 7D before. Is that the extent of your customization or did you really get wild under the hood. ;-) I bet you did huh? I bet even for Phoenix it's a real "Hot Tamale." ;-)

Jim, wonderful shots!

I had coronary bypass about the same time as you. I am still working to regain the photo bug. It knocked the wind out of me. I now do one hour of intense exercise per day and increase it every day. That takes all of my energy.

Your post will encourage me to post a photo shoot.

Thanks,

How come I feel like I am surrounded by old men. ;-) It's great to see your tag again. It has been a while. I can't believe that Bob actually took pictures of that. Can you?
Did you take pictures of yours?

Oh! Uh no. I don't really want to see them. Oh no! Did Jim take pictures of his too? I sure hope not. This could turn into a really sick thread. ;-)
I'm glad you are doing well. Keep up the hard work.
