Trying to keep up with the flower people. I hope these images don't come across as a personal attack on anyone, or their children, or their childrens children. One never knows how they will be interpreted here. ;-)

Here are a couple of shots from a poor man's 105mm f3.5 (Minolta 50F/1.7 + 2xTC). Even at f8 the DOF is thin up this close.

And a spare character I'm thinking about as an avatar. Right

I vote yes on the flowers. Nice.

I vote no on being offended.

I vote yes on the avatar.
Rootenest Tootenest avatar around! :-)

New forum character.
Not a troll, a bottom feeder.
A carp?

Nice flowers.... and I LOVE those roses! I've never seen any quite like it. Do you know what kind it is? (Although I no longer grow any I have to bury over the winter...)

I just went out to see if the tag was still on it, but it's gone. It's real hearty and of the miniature variety.

Roses are tough, but a real PITA even in California. Gotta stay on top of them and keep them fed or I end up with poor color and bugs everywhere.

Anyway thanks for the comments. I was going to say something in your thread, but got side tracked and had to cook up dinner. Good to hear you are enjoying the A700.

Carp or mud sucker, maybe even a catfish. They all like the bottom.

Thanks Rick

There was pretty cool lightning strike post in the Challenges forum a week or two back. It made me think of your excellent work capturing lightening. It was multi-strike wide angel shot over the water of a lake or bay. Really moody

Thanks

That's some pretty darn good drivel, Schwany, and Yosemite Sam is pretty cool, too. As he said, "I ain't no namby pamby".

When are you going to post some pics here again?

I checked out the PhotographyVoice site you and George enjoy to see if'n I could win me a DPOTD, but they don't have a Drivel category. Kidding

Congratulations on all those wins. It's no small feat considering the talent posting there.

Well, a PITA in California isn't QUITE the same PITA as in Minnesota*G*. We were down to -29F last winter. Many of our roses have to be buried in the fall to surive ("Minnesota trench" method). I only buy totally hardy roses now, but I've never seen a rose I didn't love. A miniature would have to be buried. ::sigh::

Some of my favorite plants around here are the ones planted by God, and I really treasure those that shine only briefly.

A wild rose:

Ha! I've never seen nor heard any drivel from ya, Schwany. Of course I can't tell what ya smell like from over here tho. And if you ever do start pushing any drivel out here, I'll be the first (maybe the 2nd?) to rap yer knuckles...

Now, as to bottom feeding, mebbe so, I dunno. I guess I can't fault you there, 'cause maybe one has to be a bottom feeder to get down to shoot those beautiful flower shots you posted.

BTW, what's drivel??? I have an awful mental picture of what drivel might be and it is going to keep me up for a few nights, I'm afraid...

The first shot is almost what I was looking for. DOF is shallow though. I think the colors in the nearly focused center, as well as the contrast between the white of the flower and the dark background is all that saved it.

I've had that Yosemite Sam character around my office for 20 years. A Warner Brothers favorite for sure.
Chuckle.

Sure like your first shot, neat.

I don't know, I may have graduated with a Masters in drivel.

Nice to see your words again. Hope you're feeling well.
